Default Animal Cruelty in Didsbury

"Passersby found the dog, a female collie-Lab cross, still alive but lying in a pool of blood in the street earlier this week. Her four legs were bound together with duct tape, a bag was covering her head and there was a tow rope around her neck. It appeared she had been dragged behind a vehicle. The veterinarian called to the scene said the rope around her neck was so tight it caused one of her eyes to pop out. Her neck, back and pelvis were also broken."

$2000 and/or 6 months in jail just doesn't seem enough...

That is disgusting. Who the hell would do that? 6 months is certainly not enough. I'd happily give them 10 years.

It makes me sick to my stomach every time I hear about some form of animal cruelty. If I ever saw somebody abusing an animal I'd beat them to a bloody pulp.

Who? How about a "What the hell would do that"?

Very pathetic, twisted creature.

I would have no problem putting whoever did that in a wheelchair for life.

Why is it that animal cruelty stories make me cringe more than the murder of a human?

Read about this yesterday, incredibly sad.

People can talk all the shi*t about PETA and other animal rights activists, but they have nothing but respect from me. They know things like this happen and they take action and fight back for animals who cannot speak for themselves.

Like the peopel who were protesting CN earlier this week about all the Bears they are killing with their trains. All they want is CN to ensure that grain does not fall off their trains and attract bears to the tracks when they are hit.

But if it costs money to solve the problem, then bo one cares to move. Christ, people don't even want to slow down 10 km driving through Banff.

Hey Kryzsky, I think 99.999% of the population are disgusted by this kind of animal cruelty not just PETA? It seems that PETA's main issue or at least what comes across to the public from them is defending chickens and cows etc.

Yeah, 99.999% of people are outraged when a dog is tortured and killed but what does it matter what kind of animal it is?

A story could be posted about chickens and their horrid living conditions, suffering almost as bad as the poor dog in Didsbury, but I doubt it would get much of a reaction.

I'll admit, I elevate dogs to a higher standing than chickens. They are man's best friend as opposed to a food source.

People are obviously going to have a little more compassion for Dogs than they will for chickens.

Is that right? Well thats a point that you could argue all night, but its a fact.

And dogs are a food source in Korea. I'm just saying, all animals feel pain the exact same way, doesn't make a difference if they have fur or feathers. It's just something to think about, the average person doesn't give it much thought.

Definitely.

But I don't think in Korea they slaughter dogs in the manner in which this dog was tortured.

Maybe they do, and if they do, its equally despicable.

Definitely there's different cultural value sets. Some cultures will eat dogs. Don't agree with that, but that's the way the world works. Bon appetite.

I don't endorse unethical treatment of my food sources either, and in that respect, then yes, industry standards need to be above board. Humane practices should be established. Wholeheartedly in agreement.

But really, the issue here is the treatment of an animal that was in no way harvested for human consumption. It was cruelty plain and simple and because it happened locally it becomes noteworthy.

It's not the time for enraged vegetarians to lecture against the sins of us omnivores. It's one of localized cruelty, and I think we're all in agreement that this incident is disturbing.
