This drives home how important it is to have a second scoring line on the Flames. Not just for the scoring but to take some top shutdown coverage away from the Johnny line.
Tkachuk and Bennett step right up.
Even if the Flames get legit secondary scoring this year, Johnny's line will get every team's top shutdown coverage because they are Calgary's most dangerous line.
I do hope though that Bennett can make his line a legitimate threat.
Yeah, I don't know why that got a bunch of hype on HF and elsewhere. It wasn't a particularly good pass, looked like it fluttered coming off his stick and ended up going way higher than intended. More of an insanely good play by Haula to knock it down for himself.

Ya fair enough. We really only have one line to shutdown right now though. Other lines can chip in but seldom do we win a game where the Johnny line doesn't chip in. Your probably right in that Johnny would always see the other teams top defenders but at least then we would have another line to throw out after.

I do not know how you can judge his intent from that replay. Could have easily exactly what he was trying to do, in which case, it's a highlight reel play. Based on the traffic between he and hauls, a high pass is the only thing that really made sense, and it essentially went to his glove. Great play all around.

You know what would be hilarious? If someone made a thread called:
[News] McDavid no points in 2 WC games. The next Daigle?
It would be awesome to watch Oiler fans come and defend him even though the thread is clearly a troll job. Ahhh dare to dream.
No need. Oiler fans troll themselves on hf as soon as things don't go to their off season plan. In the game thread there is a strange mix of admitting to over hyping mcdavid, putting players from other teams down, gushing over Gaudreau, giving up on Leon draisaitl, and creepily telling each other how much they'd pay to bang the Carl's jr. Girl. They seem to agree it's 1000$, then they talk about that amount like it's some unattainable thing. Dignity is short in supply over in oiler land.

Seems like Kevin might have some untapped offensive upside. Wasn't bad in his first number of games with the Flames in that regard either.
IIRC, he doubled his offensive output once joining the Flames from Dallas. Walked into CGY with 6 points, finished the season with 12. Keep in mind he played 40 with Dallas last year and 18 with the Flames.
I like Jokipakka a bunch and in my mind, he is the #4 D man for this season. He worked really well with Hamilton too.
Johnny looks in fine form to start the season. Love that there is a ton of talent on the ice in this tournament and Johnny still stands out with his elite skill.
That second goal was beautiful. The announcers were talking about the skill of Patrick Kane throughout the Canada vs. USA games... I truly believe Johnny is at or very close to that level of ability to create offence at will.

I think it's because it's hilarious. He shot it at him, and it turned out just fine.

McDavid and Eichel are already better than Galchenyuk and Huberdeau. And Matthews has been awesome.
Matthews has been almost non existant. He hasnt even played an NHL game yet so Im not surprised, but he is clearly one of the lower end players on the NA team right now from the 2 games that have been televised. He will be fine as he matures but hes nowhere near the top 6 group right now.
