When it comes to Monahan/MacKinnon vs McDavid, there is no such debate. Monahan and MacKinnon are great young players. McDavid is better.
|
As of today, no, he is not.
Bear in mind that I am speaking only of this tournament and the upcoming 2016–17 season. Given the choice for McDavid or Monahan on the first line of the Flames this year, I am sticking with Monahan, but I would not be surprised if by this time next year that decision will be different.

I love the chirping about team Finland every time they play these best of the best tournaments, yet they have been top3 in 4 out of the 5 olympics since 98, and they were 2nd in the last World Cup '04.
That being said, I think they won't be getting through their group

That's true. Since the pros went to the Olympics Finland has more medals than anyone!

They've had stronger teams in the past, but their best players from those times have gotten too old (Selanne, Timonnen, Koivu(s)) and haven't been replaced.

Stralman would be. Might be the most underrated defenceman in the NHL. Won't wow you offensively, but in a shutdown role I'd take him over any of the left shots on the Canadian team right now.

Add to this Burns was playing forward for large chunks of the previous couple seasons.

Add to it, Burns wouldn't be anywhere near his own point totals on that Ottawa team.

Two things on that comment:
1) while it is used a lot 'this guy wouldn't put up nearly as many points on a different team or not playing with XXX', or whatever, the fact is that those players usually prove that comment wrong. The most recent example, off the top of my head is Saad.
2) the same could easily be said about Karlsson - the likelihood that any other team allows him to play his wide open style with no regard for defense, is probably quite low. Playing with more defensive responsibility, he wouldn't likely put up anywhere near as many points.

Luckily Canada is always so good it doesn't really matter.

Bouwmeester was a late add. Someone who has played for Canada many times and understands the system and pressure and is comfortable for Babcock. He is a really good system defenseman. It's just that the system in Calgary sucked at the time.
Muzzin makes no sense.
It would be interesting who is next if another defenseman gets hurt.

As a small point of interest, shots in the CAN v USA 2 game pre tourney series were
81 - CAN
48 - USA
Canada pretty much dominated that 2 game set despite dropping the 1st game.

They did. Wasn't the US' only shot in the 3rd period of Game 1 the empty netter?
Canada's had more PP time too right?
