When asked, the response from Gio was that he never asked for anything close to what was reported.
It's always very curious when info like this appears in the media. Let's face it... Francis didn't just happen to accidentally come along and find someones negotiation notes or run into someone who was drunk and blabbed by accident. Someone on the record but off the record conveniently dropped him some info for a reason, and it's all part of the negotiation process.
If I had to guess, someone from the Flames gave him this nugget to run with to start creating pressure on Johnny who is allegedly asking for a crazy pay day.
In the end, I'll guess that Johnny signs for much less and his camp will say that they never asked for anything close to what was being reported (although they certainly will have asked for more than he ends up signing for).
**That whole, both sides wont talk about negotiations so we asked some agents part is his way of protecting the source in the negotiations. If this was really a story of what other agents think, then it'd be nothing more than an easy tweet as opposed to a story.

One difference was the lack of a "Giovertime" persona frothing at the mouth and telling everyone they're wrong because they don't agree that Gio's the greatest.

My guess is 7 years x $7.275 million. I think that's a fair deal for both sides.

But most of the time, holdouts are skating with a junior team to keep in shape.
Johnny is leading a team into a best on best tournament.

Was Francis the one who reported that Giordano wanted 8x9m?

Not if Calgary is at 6.75 as I suggested and Gross is at 8.5 as others have suggested
that's .5 from the team, and 1.2 from the player.

People need to be prepared for a holdout. And by prepared I mean not freak out/panic/develop another layer on the Canadian hockey fan inferiority complex. They happen a lot in other sports and its business wrangling taken to the next level, it doesn't mean Gaudreau hates you and the city.

They'll have to eliminate his 'Thanks' limit.
At the end of the day, in my mind $8x8 isnt terrible, of course we want the dollars lower and the term to be a minimum of 6 years but preferably the whole 8.
I wanted Monahan and Gaudreau signed for a combined $14M, and while $8M kind of blows that out of the water, it isnt terrible.
Get that number into the mid-7s and Yahtzee!

I think that people need to be prepared for a holdout only in the event that a holdout is likely. To this point it seems most likely that Gaudreau and the Flames will come to terms on a contract before the start of the season. People need to be prepared for a holdout in the second week of October if Gaudreau has not yet signed. There is still lots of time.

Hockey is a business at the end of the day. If Gaudreau has a good world's tournament (and he has started well in the first exhibition game) his stock will continue to rise. The Flames may be forced to pay $1MM per year more than they would like to sign Johnny long term - but his impact on Flames franchise revenues could easily be many times this amount. At some point Burkie gets a call from Murray Edwards that says get this kid signed!

Looks like Todd wants his Golden Child to play with Gaudreau so he can start racking up some points.

Looks like some shuffling of the lines at Team North America practice, w/Eichel and McDavid on top line w/Gaudreau.

No. I don't believe that this short tournament will have any impact one way or the other on the value of Gaudreau's next contract.

My analysis is totally OTA.
