Keyword being "most". There are acceptable Canadian beers that are commonly available, so even if you are somewhere where they only serve pop beer, you can get something that doesn't make you gag.
There is no such thing as a good, commonly available US beer.

In Canada, maybe not. But if you're in the US, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is pretty commonly available and it's a LOT better then Alexander Keith's on tap.
There is a heck of a lot more choice in microbrews in the US as well.

You can pretty much find the full lineup from Molson., Labatt or Moosehead in any liquor store in the country.
Regional beers like Kokanee can be found in corresponding US regions.
I was disappointed, however, when in my beloved Flathead Valley early this summer that I couldn't find a single Big Rock offering. When we left in 96 you could get the full Big Rock lineup pretty much anywhere beer was sold in Kalispell.

There are some great ones, they just aren't mainstream.
Next time your in the US seek out some of the microbrews. New Belgium brewing out of Fort Collins, CO makes some great beers and they are kind of a semi-national distributor now. Fat Tire is their original and I like it.

Just my opinion.

I've seen first-hand how some Americans go nuts over Coffee Crisp.
A guy from New Jersey I worked with briefly bought a box of Coffee Crisp bars when he came to Calgary. Said he couldn't get 'em back home.

I'm only referring to Canada. There are lots of widely available beers in the US that don't distribute up here, some of which I don't mind.
Sleeman's and Alexander Keith's both suck. I hate Sleeman more because of those obnoxious radio commercials that made it seem like their "recipe" was actually special or something.

Kinda like those Rickard's Red ads where some medieval robed chorus appears out of nowhere. That's pretty special for beer that is nothing but Molson Canadian with caramel coloring.

Hehe, Ive done it myself, but I made my mom send me Smarties too! And everytime I fly back to the US, I always stop at the Tim Hortons in the Calgary airport and get myself the big box of tim bits..when I get back here, I have to ration them out to everyone I know that's Canadian..they're a hot commodity.

I have a habit of buying Milk Duds whenever I make a trip to the States. I don't think I'd eat them more often if they were available in Canada. As another poster said, they'd just be another candy in the pile.
As for beer I'm all about Fort Garry Dark and Fort Garry Pale Ale, brewed here in Winnipeg. Anybody see it in the beer stores out there? Great stuff! Now you guys have me craving beer at 10:30am.

Haven't seen it in stores but I know the Hop n' Brew on 12 ave has it. Although I've tried it and to be honest I didn't care for it.

There goes my big bargaining chip with my American friends.
I suppose I still have Smarties and Aero's to barter with.

How popular is Guinness over there?
The best place i have been for lager though i Australia, just because they do not sell it in pint glasses because the ambient room temperature can make it too warm to enjoy over the course of drinking 1 pint (5 minutes).
So they sell it in scooners and it is ALWAYS ice cold and so refreshing after a day surfing when you have a salty mouth (maybe that was not just the surfing :P )
|
As soon as I turned 18, my parents took me to a pub and we each had a pint of Guinness! I love it, but it is expensive.

Yeah I think it is Budvar there. Czechvar is only in North America. Other than it saying "czechvar" rather than "Budweiser" the bottle looks just about identical. I'll snap a pic later today. Everyone, try it! NOW!

i agree with all of the ones who said any national beer seems to be crap (US or Canada)
I am one who will always try a new beer. If i goto a new liquor store, you'll always see me walking out with 2-3 different sixers.
Thats one of the reasons I like going down to the states. It is so hard for me to walk out of a grocery store there. All the different foods, candy's and beers.
I love how I can get my beer and meal all at one place. It's just odd how they make liquor at a different store. I don't know which system I like more. I think the US has the right system, they just have to move the liquor over aswell.
The US candy that I like the most is liqourice the red vine kind. I always buy a big tank of those whenever I'm down.
food, don't get me started on Jack in the Box.

^ I buy my Borboun, Tequila, Wine and Beer at the grocery store. It's only 7-11 where you cannot find liquor.
