Doesn't say his agent won't talk to the Flames. Only he won't be talking to his agent. Agent has marching orders I'm sure.

This whole "will not negotiate" during the World Cup is such nonsense. Friedman should have chosen his words more carefully. The "process" is not going to come to a grinding halt until team NA is eliminated - the Flames and JG's agent will continue their dialogue. And you be certain that should the Flames and JG's consultants get closer to an agreement on the outstanding issues on terms they feel should be recommended to JG for acceptance they will be in touch with him. All this means is that announcement will be delayed until the end of the tournament.

I'm taking Johnny saying he won't talk to his agent for a couple weeks as a positive sign. The guy's focused on going over and winning.

In the quote from the article I posted it pretty much says exactly that. Gaudreau said his agent will still be in conversation with the Flames but he didn't want to be involved during the World Cup. Involved meaning involved in negotiations one would assume. If there's key points they want Johnny's approval on and recommend as they move to an agreement that's not really negotiating anymore and more in the closing stage and of course Johnny would have input/approval.

I took two things from the recent quote; first that Johnny's agent will still be negotiating with the Flames during World Cup contrary to Friedman's statement (I guess he did say Gaudreau won't and that's not entirely untrue) and that Johnny likely has been involved more so than previous quotes may have indicated.

Why should he have chosen his words more carefully? He likely just reported it the way JGs camp told it, and based on JGs own comments the other day there's no reason to doubt it.

You may be right that the Flames and JG's agent may still talk, seems clear JG wants to focus on hockey during the WC (and good for him, smart choice) so he won't be available to discuss any new developments let alone sign.

Not sure why Friedman gets the brunt of your displeasure for telling it how he was told it was. Just because you don't like the way it potentially paints Johnny doesn't matter. JGs camp is certainly playing some hard ball (as are the Flames likely) Friedman shouldn't feel the need to dance around it to protect either side's sterling image.

New people join the forum all the time. I passed the new user verification and here I am. Born and raised Calgarian, 10 year season ticket holder, nice to meet you (and everyone else!) I can't imagine that discredits the quote I posted or what I said. I wasn't trying to be argumentative just stating that I thought Gaudreau's recent quote aligned with what you said.

Well I believe I started an oiler bashing thread my first day here 13 years ago and it got quickly shot down ... and rightfully so as I was like a teen out of juvey (?) ... you know, coming straight from the Calgaryflames.com forum at the time. That place was a debacle and I soon learned that I should act my age .... welcome! I rarely post, but have been here everyday since and appreciate thoughtful and informative posts

There ... that ought to do me for a couple years ...
