After being presented with several possibilities for how they may vote, about a quarter of poll respondents said they would vote for a third-party candidate or a candidate "from the other political party than the one that you usually support."

"What is particularly notable is that, in addition to the strongly negative views of expected opponents, Mr. Trump also has a majority unfavorable rating with voters whom his campaign has been targeting like men (55%), white voters (51%), middle-class voters (59%) and voters whose top issue concern is dysfunction in government (66%)," said pollster Ed Goeas, president and CEO of The Tarrance Group, which helped conduct the poll.

Here's one about those CNN numbers. They over sampled white people to an unprecedented amount in recent elections and that's why it shows Trump ahead. They also had 4% more republicans than democrats in their polling methodology, which is also inaccurate as there are more registered Dems than GOP voters. If you use the same percentages of the demographics that voted in 2012, it shows Hillary up by 4. Never mind the fact that the minority vote has steadily grown by about 2% each election for the last 60 years.

You can't adjust polls by party affiliation. It does not work. Demographics make sense to adjust for but not things you choose to be.

Yeah people (including Nate) were mocking that MSNBC deconstruction yesterday pretty good. Every poll has its flaws and issues, and if you try hard enough you can "unskew" any poll, and can get it to read how you'd like. The better thing to use is that at this point in 2008, McCain was slightly ahead in a few polls, and Romney was basically tied in 2012. Only post-debate polling will matter from here on out.

FBI director defends Clinton email probe, document releases

Washington (CNN)FBI Director James Comey is defending the bureau's Friday afternoon release of documents from the Hillary Clinton email investigation, saying "we don't play games" and that the documents were put out when ready.
In a memo to employees Wednesday, Comey said the decision to not recommend charges against the now-Democratic nominee wasn't a close call.
"At the end of the day, the case itself was not a cliff-hanger; despite all the chest-beating by people no longer in government, there really wasn't a prosecutable case," he said in the memo.

"I almost ordered the material held until Tuesday because I knew we would take all kinds of grief for releasing it before a holiday weekend, but my judgment was that we had promised transparency and it would be game-playing to withhold it from the public just to avoid folks saying stuff about us," Comey said.
"We don't play games. So we released it Friday. We are continuing to process more material and will release batches of documents as they are ready, no matter the day of the week," Comey said.
He concluded the memo by writing, "Those suggesting that we are 'political' or part of some 'fix' either don't know us, or they are full of baloney (and maybe some of both)."

They're exactly the same, if you consider fitness for the presidency or lack thereof. Neither should be president.

I'd strongly disagree with that. They might both be below a certain threshold that you and many others might deem fit for the presidency, but one is eminently more qualified and temperamentally suited for the role than the other. It might be that neither 'should' be president, but one of them will, and simply dismissing them as equally bad because you don't like either option is silly.

Yeah it's not a fitness issue with Hillary, it's a trustworthiness thing with her. Trump isn't fit to be class president of grade 9. Being POTUS? Pfffftttttt. He doesn't understand the basic functions of the job, or how government even works. Hillary may not be someone you trust to do the right thing, but you know she knows how to do the job itself, even if it ends up being a bad job. Trump would either be a total puppet, or a total debacle, violating the constitution consistently. Whatever one he is, he is not fit for the job.
