Default Have you turned your heat on yet?

I'm at home today, and it's bloody cold. Cold fingers, cold nose, cold toes etc. Yet, it feels too early in the year to be turning the heat on.

I'm tempted today, but I don't want to be the first person in Calgary. Guys, what's acceptable here?

This thread is will be fascinating.

Followup question:

When you DO turn the heat on, what temperature do you set it at?

The only positives about living in a wooden condo is that it always stays warm. I've never touched my thermostat.

I actually had to turn up my AC since they building turned their central AC off so it was getting too warm in my Condo.

Windows don't cool it off quick enough so the AC had to do the job.

No but I did start wearing pants instead of just lounging around in my boxers.

Yes, Sunday morning. I don't think my wife would have gotten out of bed if I hadn't. Was down to about 17.

I thought the Irish were tuff, also I think my wife turned it to auto this weekend.

I am not sure if it came on or not.

We have an electric ignition furnace, so we never have to decide when to "turn it back on". It just kicks in when the house is too cold.

Follow-up question: We set our thermostat at 23.5C. However, the reason it is so high is the thermostat is in a small hallway and has a heat vent very close by. As such, that hallway heats up much fast than the rest of the house. I'd ballpark the house to be at 22.0C most of the time.

Aren't all furnaces like this now?

I turn the "heat" part of mine off, so it doesn't kick on when the temp gets low, but not unmanageable . Some spring or fall mornings are cool, but I know it is going to warm up naturally so I don't want it kicking on when unnecessary. I could go and reprogram the temps, but clicking the heat off button is easier.

18-21 degrees is the standard in my house. Might go as high as 23 on super cold days.

Condo board said another week before they step up the main furnace, so I wait patiently. Forecast doesn't look horrible thankfully

"Auto"

AC kicks in when the temp gets too high, heat kicks in when the temp gets too low.

I like to leave it either "Off" or on "Cool" this time of the year, but my wife set it to "Auto" last night before bed and this morning when I got up the heat had kicked in. Such a waste having the Heat and AC both running at different points in the same day.

The worst was one time she had left it on "Auto" in the winter and then ran the gas fireplace so long that the house heated up enough for the AC to kick in.

You should have a manual fuse for your AC unit outside that you can unplug and set into the 'off' position. You're fortunate that you didn't blow your AC unit running it in cold weather. Relevant part starts at 2:00 in video below.

I remember freezing my balls off in Beijing in early November one year and was informed that the government doesn't turn the heat on until a week or two after that point. I don't think I ever missed home so much before that moment.

I turned the heater on for the pool last night. Went down to 18C at night.

I'm too poor to turn on the heat yet. It is getting cold though. My thermostat dropped down to 17C overnight and is about 18C right now.
