Why did you become a CalgaryPuck member?

I joined Calgary Puck, back then I think it was called Fire on Ice, in the late 90's as I was going to school in the states. Since there was no other way that I could find to follow the games with my crappy dial-up internet at the time this site save me from Flames withdrawals until graduation and moving back to The Great White North.

Although I didn't post much I enjoyed the heated debates that would break out between knowledgeable and passionate fans during some of Flames dark years. I posted so little I forgot my password and had to make a new sign in name in 2006. Although some the site and people have changed through the years, it is always fun to come back year after year.

Used to post on the flames official boards until it all went to hell. Then somehow I wound up posting on a Rangers message board for my hockey discussion before finding this place.

I don't seem to have the time to post here as often anymore but I still read a ton of threads. Maybe when my kids get a bit older I can find more time to contribute instead of just lurking.

I was actually on Ektard's site and tried to make sense of some of what was going on there and a member of CP was on there and I spoke with them and they told me about the site. I was just a visitor for over a year and then I actually became a member. This is pretty much the only thing I check for any hockey info. Thanks CZ!

I was posting on one of the old boards (I think under a different name?) when someone told me about CP, I think it might have been Shawnski? Signed up the same day and usually come here before any other sites since that day.

I too came from the Sportsnet boards. What a disaster those were.

I really miss some of the old guys here. Lanny was hilarious to read, especially when he went on a crazy rant.

Cowperson was the best. I'm pretty sure some newbie called him out for his "humble brag" pics and posts, asked if he had anything better to do with his life, which I think he really took to heart. Just like that, poof he was gone.

Shoestring was strange as hell.

Fotze was fun too, it's a shame he was erased from the board (still don't know why)

The thing with Lanny was that he sometimes would take his time and post something that was a great read, like on prospects or something. Then a minute later he would get in a heated battle with someone and insult the heck of them. He couldn't really contain himself. One interesting character, that's for sure.

Back in the day Slam/canoe was the place for hockey news. Used to print off the puckmaster and read it in the wrecker at work! That's how I found this place but I think it was something different at the time. People weren't always the friendliest around here in the beginning but the community has grown up over the years. I still like to come by every once in a while.

Just enough to see how active it was - maybe about a week. It was Monahan's first season and the first "official" season of the rebuild, so CP was remarkably content rich and active and now I am guilty of pressing F5 a ridiculous number of times throughout the day, whether I'm at work or at school.

Lurked for years joined to finally be part of the discussions. Promptly stopped after realizing when I post people accuse me of being moon. I'm not moon though really not moon. Now I'm going back to my lurking position.

Like others, I was on other sites that weren't really what I wanted. I.e. actual knowledge and communication not just wars with fans from every team.
I think my bro told me about this site being well worth a read/follow/join-up.
