My inner-forger thinks the name block was switched after it was signed. Although, in that case, I would have changed it to "Signed by World's Worst Goalie", or maybe something less wordy.

Could have just had it folded when it went to get signed, doubt it took much subterfuge

Your heart is too pure.

We will see though. Will it be your Occam's Razor type theory, or my more nefarious plot to dupe Luongo.

Don't post much, but have been here it seems like forever. Signed up when I was really young. 2001 I would have been 13. Scary that I've been a part of this site daily for that long lol. Anyways reason I joined was I lived in Edmonton and was searching the web for flames news. Barely any games were on tv at that time and it was tough to keep up with flames news living in enemy territory. Found this site and the rest is history.

The story behind the story behind the story was SLAM Sports, the old canoe site for the Calgary, Edmonton Sun etc. They had a really active message board that was going to hell quickly with abuse etc.

So I found one of those archaic create your own message board sites and got a few guys to move over. Two years later Board got Calgarypuck but didn't have the traffic. Approached me to merge and the rest is history.

Wild ride!
Slam Sports / wow bad memories / remember all the guys who had multiple accounts and would attack with one and defend the attack with another and on an on. What a sideshow that place was.

I found this site after the Phaneuf trade. I came here to bask in your misery but just lurked at the time.

Then after that trade didn't turn out exactly as hoped I joined because for the most part it's good hockey talk here. Now I'm in China and read this site all the time. It's actually pathetic how much I visit this site....

Great thread!

I can't remember how I found out about the site...(maybe from Kermitology, but I think we met each other later than when I started lurking, which was 2004).

I remember that the first thing I did when GM 7 from TB ended was to go on CP. It was a way to relieve my anger (about GM 6 and the non penalty call in OT on St Louis), sadness and sense of loss. Reading the commentary somehow eased the pain...

I lurked for a LOOONNNGGG time (like, 5 years! ) before signing up. And I'm glad I did--so many great posters here, so many links to interesting articles, and so many posts that make me laugh, daily!

Thanks, Bingo, for doing what you did to bring this community together. It's a daily source of escape and entertainment.

And Go Flames Go!

I suppose I became a CP member for the same reason I did in the Flames newsgroups way back then to stay in touch with fellow Flames fans which is harder to do when you live in BC.
This is basically it for me too. First started posting in alt.sports.nhl.clgry-flames (can still type that address from muscle memory), and a few people started posting links to CP discussions there. I hung on to Usenet for a while out of loyalty and familiarity, but in the end the community here was larger (and was the home of more and more good Usenet posters like Jay Random, Vlad, and the Artists Formerly Known As Marc Ciampa and Adam Peddle) and the interface much more user friendly.

I remember at the alt days too! But I migrated to the official forums from there, at least until it became insufferable; and when it did (2004), I lucked out and found this place a few months before 'the run.' Hooked ever since.

All these posts about coming to CP after fleeing other forums (newsgroup, sportsnet, hfboard, official flames) when they became "insufferable" makes me wonder where we'll all flee to once CP becomes insufferable.

Was it Chris Lindberg or Chris O Sullivan that was the super Backlund fan and pretty much disappeared the day he became a regular in the lineup?

I always assume that guy had a stroke at his dream finally coming true and died.

I demanded a gift from the Mods for my 10-year anniversary on the site and they gave me a shiny new watch, It fits great!

Chris Lindberg was the Backlund superfan who always posted the mock lineups. His last post was January 8, 2009. Backlund's first game (when he played one game after the World Jrs, before he went to Kelowna) was also January 8, 2009.

Where ru Chris O'Sullivan was the one who kept claiming Backlund would never amount to much and be in the KHL by now (for a few seasons by now).

i'm trying to remember - it was a while ago.....

we either sent a bunch of numbers to the canucks to get signed (costs a lot less to ship that rather than fully done up jerseys) and then put them on jerseys afterwards or it was a regular signed jersey that i changed the namebar on... i think i changed the bar but i'm not 100% on that.

honestly, seeing luongo's personality on his twitter account he'd probably think it was pretty funny
