Nice win for the good guys.

Jays remain 2 up on the Red Sox for the time being. I hate to say it but I think the Mariners are toast, they had their run but have lost 5 in a row and are 2-8 in their last 10 and now have multiple teams ahead of them for the last wildcard spot.
Astros have gone on a run and have put themselves back in the mix. Really nothing set in stone yet! It's going to be tense September for all teams in the hunt in the AL. The NL on the other hand is stupid and sucks.

I posted this link back around the All-Star break, but thought I'd put it up here again for those interested:

http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/...b-predictions/

Jays continue to have the 2nd highest ELO. This pegs their playoff chances at 90%, winning the division at 61%, and winning the World Series at 12%. For reference, the cubs have the best World Series chance at 23%, and the Jays are second with their 12% (all according to this model).

It does make it interesting to watch the stretch drive. The three lowest teams with any chance of the playoffs are the Mariners, Yankees, and Royals, with 7%, 12%, and 14% respectively. I personally think all three of those are done (the Royals cannot stay this hot for another whole month), but that's why they play the games!

Paper transaction as Bluefield is done tonight.

Travis has options that will probably never be used. As he was optioned today, he is still eligible for the Playoffs.

I don't see how any American League Team can be ahead of Texas. Especially if Texas gets home field throughout the playoffs (World Series included)

He'd be eligible anyways. Eligibility restrictions apply to guys coming in from outside of the organization... sending him to Bluefield just insures he doesn't have to wait the mandatory 10 days before being recalled.

Also: First wave of September call-ups are Pompey, Barnes, Tepera, Dermody. I expect that a few more names from Buffalo and maybe New Hampshire will make there way when their MILB season is over.

Who was that pitcher they acquired at the deadline? Why isn't he being recalled? Or is that Dermody?

No, that was Mike Bolsinger. I don't see what role he would play on the MLB team. He might show up when Buffalo finishes it's season but I wager he doesn't. We'll probably see Loup & Girodo recalled and maybe Bo Schultz. As for batters I wouldn't be shocked if Rowdy Tellez got added to the 40man since he's a southpaw and maybe Jesus Montero. If they can find a spot for them.

Oh true, I see they changed the rule

Quote:
it used to be a player had to be on the 25-man roster or on the disabled list by Sept. 1. That's no longer the case, as all players on the 40-man roster are now eligible -- teams just have to pick their 25-man rosters before their playoff series.

When did this change?

I would be happy to see Tellez get some ABs with the big team at some point. 21 home runs in AA ball.

He's the only guy that can catch Dickey well enough.

Adding those two just for name value alone has to happen.

Sadly no, his real first name is Ryan. Rowdy is just what everyone calls him (and how he refers to himself).

It's a childhood nickname that stuck. Like Buster Posey.

Yeah, run differential is probably the major reason, as well as their weaker division. If they are playing more games against teams with lower ELO (which they are because their division is somewhat weak), then the increase to their ELO is less significant. That's basically a fancy way of saying the program is adjusting their record somewhat to compensate for an easier schedule based on their divisional match-ups.

The projections have Texas winning 95 and the Jays winning 92. Personally, winning 92 in the AL East is more of a feat than 95 in the AL West, and this program likely thinks so too.
