Pre Calgary Puck and I think even pre online message board/forums there was a Calgary Flames newsgroup which I would frequent to get my Calgary Flames fix. I think a lot of the old newgroup members crossed over and were contributors to CP (Marc, Rick and maybe D'Arcy too?)
I suppose I became a CP member for the same reason I did in the Flames newsgroups way back then to stay in touch with fellow Flames fans which is harder to do when you live in BC.

Started on hfboards and wanted more local based talk. Heard about the cesspool known as Calgarypuck and dipped my toes in the Off Topic section first.
Dived in after that and I quite like the temperature.

I was a big fan of the team as a kid, then got busy growing up for a while. When they had the hot start in 2001 with Roman Turek as the starter I started following closely again, and somehow stumbled upon CP while I was looking for more info.
I still read a lot but now with little kids I don't have time to post much.
It amazes me how often CP comes up in a search for some completely unrelated to hockey thing, with some great educational thread in the OT board.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
The year was 2004. A plucky Flames team was making a surprise run to the Stanley Cup Final. A young (er) me was looking for any and all Flames news he could find and Google (or was it Yahoo?) brought me here. Fear of public posting however kept me from officially joining for another 3 years.

Yeah I remember that group and some others that hit the dust along the way. Flames fans talking hockey and other sports etc. as well is the reason.
