Default Why did you become a CalgaryPuck member?

I heard it was Calgary Herald Flames writer Mike Board's new venture in early 2000.

It was hosted on a site called Rivals.com

I think I was playing street hockey with AC and he told me about it.

I have a sad, pathetic, destructive addiction to it now though.

Wasn't enough hockey talk on beyond, wanted to chat hockey but still wanted to keep it local rather than go on reddit or hfboards.

Now I'm on here constantly

In 2002 I Googled "calgary flames training camp banff" and CP was up near the top. I'd read some forums by that time but when I opened the FOI page I couldn't belive it. All these other nerdy Flames fans to talk to ha ha! This was at a time when i couldnt pay people to come to the games.

Although I will admit to making jokes about just how nerdy some posters were back then, until I became one of them.

I started reading more about the flames and trade rumors. Eklund was frequently one of the first returns on Google and I realized he was dog s*** as nothing he said came true. CP was #2 at the time and I lurked for a few years before signing up.

Sarcastic edit: I'm just here for the gang bang.

Was a contributor for a long while on the old Sportsnet forums, and then watched some of the best Flames posters there (Roof-Daddy and Flameswin especially) migrate here. So I did too.

Huh? Just noticed Jayswin is flameswin? Cool.

Excitement about the flames acquisition of Rob Neidermayer. Maybe things were finally turning a corner and I wanted to read more about the Flames upcoming season. I think an Alta Vista search led me to CP.

Long time lurker, but my brother brought the site to my attention (Canucks fan too, gross).

I finally signed up leading up to or when Iggy got his 500th and felt the need to be a part of the celebration. At least thats how I remember it. Someone can check my join date and see if it checks out. Im pretty sure thats when I joined.

Edit: Just checked myself, that was a year later, Jan 2012. So I dont remember why I joined, but I was in England at the time, so it was a great way to connect with fellow Flames fans while I was abroad.

Chanced across it one day searching for Monahan stuff. I lurked for all of a week before deciding that this was the place to be for Flames fans.

Had recently joined the Stamps old forum (GoStampsGo.com), which was the first team-specific forum I had ever been on. Tended to get pretty slow in the off-season regarding post activity, one of the senior posters there told me this site was a good alternative during the slow CFL off-season. The rest is history
