The thing is I don't consider that a slight. I just pointed that out yesterday in the same way I was suggesting that Stamkos isn't the best player to build a team around. Offensive players are great, but if you can pay a guy like Toews franchise money you get more for your dollar.

Definitely elite offensive talent. I'd add that he's very underrated by some with respect to his defensive game. He comes with an elite hockey mind that allows him to read plays going both ways on the ice which allows him to steal pucks and prevent opportunities better than a lot of people assume simply because he is supremely talented on the other end of the ice.

Remember when we all chuckled when Gaudreau was shorter and smaller than Flames TV reporter Alex Ruiz at 2011 development camp? I sure do.

"Stop"
There's no shame in taking more of that pizza for yourself.

Why would you want him to keep eating your pizza? This guy is eating your pizza while simultaneously binging you, some friend. I say screw him.

So we're all in agreement?
He is binging on pizza AND binging my ear off at the same time?

You could say he's got a binge binging problem.

The World Cup is 20 days away, and these participants are without contracts:
Jacob Trouba
Johnny Gaudreau
Nikita Kucherov
Tobias Reider
I just don't see these guys taking on the risks associated with playing in this tournament, while not having an NHL contract in place. It's going to be an interesting 3 weeks!
Semi-related: I totally forgot that Filip Forsberg had signed a 6yr/6AAV deal. The Flames are surely using this as a comparable to Gaudreau, and hoping Kucherov signs something similar. Perhaps Treliving is holding firm, and offering the same contract that Monahan just signed.

I believe all of these players have confirmed that they will play regardless of the contracts saying they will get insurance. In fact the Flames have one week to get Johnny signed as he will not negotiate during the tournament. I hope something gets done this week

Still Johnny is taking on all the risk playing in that tournament without a contract if he gets hurt without a contract there is no way he can get insured for what he would make if he signs before

Yeah, they're bluffing when they say that.
These players, with the exception of Reider, have $45M+ contracts being offered to them. There's no way they go to this tournament and risk an injury, which could pull said contracts off the table.

There's no doubt their agents have told them not to play without being under contract. This is just a negotiating contract to put pressure on their teams.

What kind of injury is needed to go from 45 mil to 0. Even a concussion, torn ACL type of injury and the Flames still offer Gaudreau millions. Gaudreau lights up the tourney could help his cause too
Unless he breaks his neck an injury isn't that huge of a concern

All I know is that putting any risk into a situation when you're about to sign a guaranteed contract of over $40MM is idiotic.

Maybe elite junior players should take a year off before draft year too cause the risk is to high. Blown out of proportion the risk he is taking playing in tourney

You just asked what the concerns are over not having a contract in place before the tournament and then highlighted the concerns yourself.
We're not talking about a 10 year vet with a huge contract under his belt already, we're talking a future superstar with one entry level deal under his belt. A career ending injury would be devastating.
Not to mention you're really understating the risk of lost money to even serious, but non career threatening injuries. Think of it his way - He's negotiating very aggressively and without a contract in late August to be paid the most he can, yet you're discounting possible loss of millions on a contract as "Why would he care? He's still getting millions anyways".
Do you not see how your opinion is disconnected from reality, there? He's using it as a negotiating tactic, and he honestly may still hold out past the tournament start date, but of course he wants a deal done before then, and of course playing with just insurance would be a huge risk for him.

If he got a concussion during the tourney I doubt he signs a 5 year 5 mil deal. I bet he gets 7 for 6 rather than 7.5.
What if he lit it up. Maybe he gets his demands right now and gain even more on the flames latest offer
If he breaks his neck he has insurance he will still be rich but that isn't going to happen and if I'm him if I feel the flames are low balling me I play in tourney no deal knowing he won't lose $45 mil if he gets hurt.
Don't ever cross a street you may get run over. Calm down the risk isn't that big of a deal

You just shrugged off $3M.
No one said there is much of a chance of a career ending injury (but there is a chance). But even a concussion or a serious shoulder or knee injury would result in a contract for less money.

Lighting it up could gain him $3 mil too. Flames cave in if he has a huge tourney too imo

I think there is nothing but upside for Johnny in this tournament when not looking at the injury factor.
If he doesn't score a lot of points his agent can blame it on his being on a young team, first time playing against the international best.
If he puts up a bunch of points, that looks great in negotiations.
