Default Bluefin Tuna Population Had Dropped 97%

Quote:
Under current levels of reproduction and management of the fisheries in the Pacific, the likelihood of rebuilding stocks to healthy levels is only 0.1 percent, the report says.

Cutting catches by a fifth would improve those odds to only 3 percent.

Japanese eat about 80 percent of all bluefin tuna caught worldwide, and stocks of all three bluefin species -- the Pacific, Southern and Atlantic -- have fallen over the past 15 years as demand for the luscious, buttery pink-to-red fleshed fish has soared globally.

Pfft I don't even feel bad. Maybe they should try not tasting so delicious.

(Also note that the article is in the MERCURY news. Biomagnification jokes)

Yes, humans are short-sighted, and unintentionally evil. This is very depressing.

Is something unintentional if you know it's a problem but refuse to address it?

This article from 2013 basically quotes similar numbers. Looking on the bright side, it looks like measures taken since then have curbed the decline.

If you force fed me, foie-gras style, salmon sashimi until I died, that would be my ideal way to go.

Maybe we should have switched to tuna-friendly dolphin.

Salmon is the White Castle of fish and as a result, you are a bad person.

I do my part by only eating factory farmed food. You people are monsters for taking them from their natural habitat..

When you really get down to it, all seafood is kind of gross, stinky, and slimy.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
