I don't think Calgary will be willing to pay what it takes to get him on a 8 year deal which will likely cost $8million+ but instead settle on a 7 year deal worth $7.25 million.

That's a pretty wide range.
$7M x 8 years and $8M x 7 years are completely different.
Instead on constantly moving the goalposts, and whining that people under-appreciate Gaudreau every time someone doesn't completely agree with you, tell us what you think he should get paid.

I think $7.1M x 6 years, $7.5M x 7 years, or $8M x 8 years
6.5M per for 5 RFA years
10M per for years 6,7
11.5M per for year 8
I think 6.5M for RFA years is fair.
Effectively, Monahan had the following structure:
5.5M per for 5 RFA years
8.5M per for years 6,7

No way should the Flames pay Johnny north of $7M and only buy one year of free agency. Pump the brakes here he needs to sign for 7-8 years to even consider going over $7M
