I'm going to do it this weekend (along with a new water pump and wheel speed sensors ugh). Thinking about putting my gazebo canopy up too but doing both is definitely a recipe for summoning a dump of snow.

Thanksgiving/Halloween to Easter seems like a reasonable amount of time to have winter tires on. Any more than that and they're on the car for more than half the time.

Bought a new vehicle and decided not to put the winters on and now it has snowed and been cappy everyday since. I may put them back on just so this weather will stop.

Usually I put my summers on May long. I always remember because usually May long we have a huge snowstorm and think to myself why the hell I live here.
So I'm still holding out...though this year appears to be different, and my poor winter tires are getting shredded.
I don't know what to do about this first world problem

If you haven't yet please do. I'd like some snow.

I have yet to swap mine out before May long, and never will.

Here's some all weather tires from Cooper (Discoverer A/TW) on sale at Canadian Tire. They have the mountain snow peak symbol and seem to be well rated. I picked up a set as I don't want to be bothered with changing over twice a year. They are quieter than my previous Nokians M&S on my Escape.

Sorry to bump this thread while summer is still upon is, but I'm looking to get some input on winter tires for my truck. I am wondering what those of you with half-tonne trucks have had good experience with, winter tire wise. We do a lot of highway travel throughout the year, so something that works well on highways and isn't too noisy is preferred. I appreciate any feedback!

If your truck stays on asphalt all the time then any dedicated winter tire is a good choice. I have Blizzak's on my Ford in the winter and they're great on the snow and ice.
Bridgestone Blizzak, General Altima Arctic, and Goodyear UltraGrip Ice are 3 common ones that I've used that I would definitely buy again
If you aren't always on the roads then I'd say look for a winter rated all terrain tire. Like a Goodyear Duratrac. Not as good on the ice and snow, but mix slush and mud in their and you're good to go. Ive used BFGoodrich all terrain K02's for years and will likely get a set on the Dodge soon. They're a little softer than the Duratrac, so better in the snow but they wear a lot faster. Another benefit of a winter rated AT is you could use them all year round and not change them over in the fall and spring. But again, not as good on snow and ice as an actual winter tire

The severe weather rated ones (with the mountain symbol) are actually pretty good. I've run dedicated winter/summers on a number of vehicles, but used the Nokian WG3 (which are the same idea) on my old Jimmy and they were decent.

They'd be adequate, and better than an all season, but not quite as good on snow and ice as a dedicated winter

I'm in the market for some winter tires for my car.
Should i buy now or wait?
Is costco the best option? It seems to be what I've heard from everyone.
Costco currently has only 1 winter tire in stock that fits my car, the Blizzak WS80. Is it any good? Reviews seem good.

I went to the tire shop at Costco and they suggested I wait until September to start shopping for winter tires. They'll have a lot more selection by then.

The WS80 are great tires from what I have heard. Costco is a great option. If I'm not buying from TireRack or Discount Tire in the USA I get my tires from Costco. Wait until mid or late September and Costco will start to have $60 to $100 off promos on winter tires. Actually the Bridgestone promo starts Aug 29 and goes until Oct 2 ($70 off a set.)

That's a good tire Cecil, ran that on a Jetta a few years ago and loved it.
Fouintain Tire usually has their buy 3 get one free promotion in October.
Buying tires in their off season only saves you money if you're buying used. Buying from stores, wait until late September at least for winters

Here's a review of the Cooper AT/W. I'm not saying they are the best but they work for me.
Quote:
In all, overall feel, grip, predictability, and even the ability to regain control from a skid, and to “feel” that skid as it’s about to happen, were all on-par with a full winter tire. Measured braking distances, on this surface, in this vehicle and at the speed I used, were consistently close to that of the winter-only tire, too -- off by perhaps a foot or less each time.
