With no leverage other than a holdout I can't see him getting paid and only getting a couple years. I think it is under $6M for sure if the team doesn't buy any UFA years.
At the end of the day I think a bridge deal would be awful. I really hope the Flames can get a 7 or 8 year deal

Not in my mind. I look at it as 6 years is a long time. Anything more than 6 years and i think he is getting Tarasenko money. With the extra money saved they can spend the extra money on a piece to get us over the top. I want the flames to win the cup, and i could care less who stays or does not stay long term.

Way, way too high for an RFA-only deal.
I would say 3 x $4.5M, except there won't be a bridge deal.

the worst case - by far - is a 5 year deal

It is now, and apparently your idea is "unfunny nonsense". Shame on you!

It would be a bad nightmare for Flames fans and management and a signal the "Johnny" doesn't want to play in Calgary long term.

Don't really understand why Flames fans would rather only have one UFA year in a six year deal over a bridge deal where there will be another RFA period. I would much rather have the latter, as an RFA Gaudreau is worth a lot more than a pending UFA Gaudreau.

A Gaudreau bridge would be untouched end to end and dangerous in the middle.

Because you have to be careful with a bridge contract too. What's to stop Johnny from just signing his qualifying offer and/or going to arbitration each year until he's finally a UFA? That's really what gave Subban the leverage to get his super deal.

Millions making it sound like a bridge deal is more and more likely - partly due to the Giordano cap. He said, based on conversations with treliving, he would bet 3-5 years at between Monahan and Gio cap hit http://pmd.fan960.com/audio_on_deman...-Interview.mp3

Millions is spitballing as well. He all but admits that he doesn't have any inside information. He raises some decent points, but I think the Gio cap is really silly.

Yea he obviously is just giving his opinion. The Gio cap is weird. If we only sign Johnny for 3-4 years are we still going to have a problem resigning him because of the Gio cap? It's not like Gio's contract goes through his prime. It takes him to 40, so it should be expected that he have lower cap hit than a young super star.
I really don't like the feeling I got from listening to Millions. It makes me think they two parties are still miles apart and that Treliving would be happy to force a hold out.

I am with you...until that last sentence. There is no scenario that I can think of that would incentivize Treliving to force a holdout.

I would hope that would be the case. Based on Millions read of the situation, it sounds like Treliving would be ok waiting if Johnny wanted more than Gio.
I really really hope that's not the approach being taken. . . Johnny has proven just as much as guys like Ekblad and Tarasenko had before their big contracts, it's quite ridiculous to say he still has to prove he's worth a big long term deal after what he's done, and I'm sure Gross is thinking the same.

4 years sucks too, then he's only one arbitration away from UFA.
2-3 years or 7-8 years, let him sit out if he wants.

Pretty much what Conroy said before, if it's a bridge it won't be that long.

Anything not long term makes me nervous about offer sheets. We can always match as long as we have the space, but that's a crappy thing to have to think about.

If he only signs a bridge deal, then in a couple years, drags negotiations out again, to the point where he ends up signing an offer sheet, then clearly he never wanted to play here and was never interested in the team, just himself.
If that's the case, then the Flames should move on at that point.
(I very much doubt that Gaudreau would take that approach)

I don't know why you assume it's Gaudreau dragging out negotiations, by all accounts he wants to play here long term. We don't know what's happening, but if Calgary wants to impose the Gio cap, there's reason to believe even Gaudreau's next contract offer will be well below market. That's not on Gaudreau being selfish. That's on the team not paying him what he's worth and forcing him to sign an offer sheet.
Would you take 10-20% less salary to help your company make more money?
