Default Buying an IBM Laptop

Looking to buy an IBM for work. I've called 3 different computer shops that I found through IBM's website and they all have over a month delay on the Thinkpad X Series.

Just curious, how does IBM distribute and sell their products? It seems like none of the usual places carry them, Memory Express, Best Buy, Futureshop.

IBM's personal computer and laptop division were sold to the Chinese company Lenova like 2 years ago.

Why do you want an IBM?

Yeah, it was Lenevo I called to get names of retailers here in Calgary.

I have an IBM Thinkpad at home, bought it almost 4 years ago. I like way they're built, pretty solid, my unit has survived a couple drops onto the hardwood floor. Mainly I am a fan of the "Accupoint" tracker that sits between the keys. I cannot stand the touch screens, I work a lot faster with the little eraser style button.

Can you actually walk into a store in the city and buy and IBM?

I hear you, I could never buy a laptop without a trackpoint style pointer. Of all the laptops I've come across, the IBM's are the best. I've never seen them in stores though, I think your only luck is going to be online.

I bought my T42p through the website last year. They had a sale on their refurbished units, so I got a great deal. I don't see any rebate units listed.

Have you tried Compusmart? Their website sells them, perhaps their retail stores do too.

Great choice on the ThinkPad, probably the most durable, and best put together notebook I've ever used and abused. Some of these "pretty" new ones that are in vogue - wouldn't last a week in the life of a roving consultant.

Count me in the Trackpoint camp too...viva la nipple!
