Ha - my boss is in that first picture, second row, guy in red tshirt leaning forward, beside a guy in a backward white ball cap.

Sunday morning I was trying to explain to my 19 year old daughter why Saturday night was so important...why The Hip means so much to so many. That article does a much better job than I did.

I guess you can sum it up like this; they belong to us, they are for us, about us. They are a genuinely great band, who are greatly genuine, and that's what makes us love them.

####, I'm getting worked up all over again...

Yeah, I think it's a given hence why they said they aren't going to replay it on TV.

I believe part of this tour was also a way for Gord to get his peeps one more big payday. Not to take away from the immeasurable courage and devotion to his fans as the primary reason for doing this, but I think it's a bit of a financial parting gift and I hope no one looks down at the commercial aspect if it does go that way.

It's that kind of depth that makes them a valuable listen on the 3rd, 4th, or umpteenth time you listen to the album. You'll stumble on something new years and years late, and that's truly masterful writing.

It's funny that you bring up Costello, because he was an incredible lyricist in his own right, but there was nothing subtle about his lyrics. However, he did manage to write an upbeat tune to go along with incredibly heavy lyrics in order to obscure just how dark the song was.

Just one example of many:

Totally agree.with you both. The work had great depth.

Bonus, I think a Costello lyric is where the band got their name.

One of my favourite things about this concert: a friend of mine was in BC and checked into the Golden Rim Motor Inn to watch the concert.

It's from a comedy skit done by Michael Nesmith of the Monkees. I didn't know that until this week.

Well, I just read this whole thread at work and got near as emotional as I did watching and at the London show.

I really hope they put something out with all of the concerts...in their entirety, out.

If not, I will be happy with just the highlights, but I would pay whatever price they deemed necessary for every concert.

Surely the band is going to release a Blu-ray of this concert? I missed it.

I heard "Watching The Detectives" yesterday, confirming "She's filing her nails while they're dragging the lake" is one of my favorite all-time lines. We should have a thread on that.

1. The other inspiration for the band's name

The Tragically Hip's name isn’t just taken from a skit on Elephant Parts, the late-night comedy show from Michael Nesmith (yes, formerly of the Monkees). In a 1989 interview with the Georgia Straight, Downie also revealed they’d heard the phrase in an Elvis Costello song.

“There's one skit in there that is sort [of] like a TV plea: 'Send some money to the Foundation for the Tragically Hip.' And that phrase has also appeared in an Elvis Costello song. It crops up every now and again, and it's just a name that we like."

Isn't it a Days Inn now? Still an awesome idea.

Not sure if this made it into the thread or not yet, don't have time to go through all the pages:

I am one of the biggest hip fans and have already re watched the concert, one thing that makes me sad and I seem to always notice it is when he looks down at the words. I don't want to notice every time but I do and it seems like he does a lot.
