Yeah, it's more of a software issue (same thing with computers). The devices themselves will last a long time if looked after.

I hate it when music and movie formats change. Like really, isn't DVD good enough? Before BluRay came out, did anyone watch a movie on DVD and think it wasn't good enough.

Same thing with music. We have gone through so many format changes, and now look at all the people going back to vinyl. Sometimes it was change just for the sake of change.

Brooklyn actually has an awesome Bar-Cade that I think would do very well. Basically think of Craft, but around the entire bar are old 80s-90s arcade machines. I think it would do awesome here. CP fund drive?

2.5-3 hrs from Calgary. Awesome ski hill minutes away. Tucked in a beautful valley. I'm surprised there's not more of a shift there. Every time I drive through BC Im surprised at how quickly Golden comes up.

There's barcades almost everywhere. Maybe there isn't one here because of a bylaw thing. A Montreal barcade had to lobby for bylaw changes because an old bylaw from the 70s forbade serving drinks with something like 3 or more pinball/arcade machines present.

Trend in software, browsers and operating system towards icons replacing words. Like Gmail for example, gone are the days of seeing "reply" "forward" "trash" "new email" now you see about 5 different arrows and folder icons.

This seems like a weird thing to hate. Movie formats follow the advancement of display technology. Like, no one watched a DVD on a SDTV and thought it could be way better. Then we got high definition TV's and needed a new format to match up to that display's potential.

BluRay's didn't just replace DVD for the sake of replacing it.

I feel like this one is the most rose-colored-glasses of the whole thread. It was frustrating as hell when I was a kid to never be able to rent the movie I wanted because we happened to be too late getting to the video store. We watched other movies when that happened but eventually gave up on it because there were so many bad movies we ended up renting. We'd rather not watch a movie than spend $6 renting something that would likely be lousy. On-demand viewing removed that hassle and it's definitely for the better.

For every Blockbuster and Rogers that filled the small neighbourhoods, there was a nice little Casablanca or much later, Bird Dog Video, nestled in a strip mall. I'll miss those little places curated only by their owner's love for film.

I'm not even sure if I ever watched Blueray to be honest. I refused to replace my player to accommodate the new format. If I do, I will probably have to replace my TV and sound system to notice the difference anyway.

I guess I am too cheap to keep up.

I prefer Revelstoke to the resort in Golden, last time i was there they still had an issue with no mid mountain lift. If they ever resolve that, it could get interesting. Primarily though, the issue remains the required twinning of the highway all the way to Kamloops, that will make it interesting. I think the plan is to complete that by 2021(saw the signs for this project this summer).

Save your money as it's a stagnant, if dying area. The BC mines are the major employer and in the late 70's and early 80's it was a fairly vibrant place but it's dead now. The local businesses suck and in winter it becomes a total ghost town. The properties as a whole are old and many run down. You also have to be very tolerant of wind because it's really windy.

The Crowsnest areas not all bad, stopped at the Tims in Blairmore a couple weeks back and four Pokémon showed up as I waited in line. So it's got that going for it, which is nice.

I don't think you'd even need that nice of a TV -- if you have something that runs in 1080p you should notice a pretty significant difference between a Bluray and a DVD. I haven't bought a DVD for at least 6 or 7 years, just unappealing now.

If you're still rocking an SDTV though, carry on.
