Obviously, but I don't think it's a secret that Johnny wants to be closer to his mom/parents and likes being close to home. Regardless of how much he likes Calgary, there is always a lot of chatter about the Boston/NY area. Fingers crossed for term.

I do think term is the biggest hold up with Johnny. He wants 4, team wants 7, how would people feel with 5 yrs (say $7m AAV), with a limited no trade in the last year in case he wants to bail to the Northeast?

I would've happily done 8 years at that AAV. Very good signing. I suspect this means Gaudreau will be getting a six year deal as they don't want their contracts to expire at the same time again.

Wooo solid contract all round. Love the term and cap hit. While 8 years would have been ideal for some, this is still the longest contract in Flames history.
