I can't see Johnny signing under 7 just because of Gio. It is likely all to do with the term. 6 years or less probably can get under the 7 million mark. 6+ they probably want 7-8. Plus Johnny being 23 I'm sure they rather him negotiate a new contract at age 28-29 rather than say 31.

I don't know about this, sure that might be his feelings now but give him 6,7 or 8 years he will have put down some roots in Calgary maybe have a family by then and might like to stay. All things are possible.

This might be true, but even if it is, how is Gaudreau any different from practically every other NHL player? I don't get why some people make a big deal out of this when in actual fact most players DON'T return to their home towns to play; why should we think that Gaudreau is any different? In the end, I expect that he will sign a long term deal in the next two weeks.

People have said it's slightly higher than McKinnon's AAV, so it's probably 6.325 or 6.35. It's probably not the Sutteresque 6.39999999999999, however.
