Hope it's 8 years at 6.5 to 6.7 and Johnny is comparable with 6.7 to 7.3 based on performance.

Those numbers probably won't be too far off but that would mean no hometown discount for either player. i www hoping for some BT magic but that doesn't seem to be the case

I'm hearing it is 7x$6.85 a year. I do talk to myself often though.

Should be 6.5m tops. With the claimed "hometown discount" you'd think around 6.

Hopefully you can pass this note along before it's too late.

I must be the minority here and think anything higher than 6.3 AAV is insane for monny. I ain't hating on the guy, I even have his jersey which I wear to games but sorry he's not on the level of comparables. If not for Gaudreau he wouldn't put up the points he does and yeah... inb4 here signs a massive contract and puts up a mediocre performance next season.

I do hope however I'm proven wrong and he starts using his size and starts playing with some grit and stands up for his teammates like a true leader.

"Insane"?

You might want to dial down the hyperbole a tad. I don't think anyone would have a problem with you saying "slightly overpaid", but that's ridiculous.

Suggesting he's "not on the level" of his comparables when he's out-produced them is a real head-scratcher. Good players make each other better. Without Monahan, Gaudreau wouldn't have the numbers he has either.

Monahan produced when he entered the NHL in his rookie season without Gaudreau. He's gotten better and better and is now one of the better young Centres in the NHL.

Glad to hear qualified professionals are in charge here, because this is exactly the kind of kid you lock up long term.

And this just takes it to a whole other level of ignorance. What a terrible take from top to bottom.

If you were signing Monahan to a 1 or 2 year deal 5 mil per would be about accurate. However, you are basically signing him to a

5, 5, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 7.5, 8.5 contract, which is what a 6.7 mil X 7 deal looks like if spread out.

The last three years are UFA years and is when he should be at his level best.

I'm not sure if this is good news or not.

Sure it's a report that the deal is about to happen. But it's Eric Francis. Lately his articles have been a negative barometer of the future.

Remember when Marc Andre Fleury to the Flames was a done deal?

I like the news but I would like it more if it was from someone else.

Fan 960 saying that the story has legs, so its more likely than not to be true. But imagine if Francis gets this one wrong too.
