You will want to keep your ssids the same if you want it managed on the AP end to switch between the two (only works if you have the certain AP and software). Otherwise you'll be better off with two ssids and let the device switch if needed

ok this last one confuses me a little. the guide im reading says you can use any older router and turn it into a slave, and, to match the SSID. but your suggesting that unless i have specific new and fancy ap to have a seperate SSID? if i did that sounds like id have 2 totally different wireless networks

^This is why I suggest the USG if you are setting up a custom routes, doing dual WAN setups or have other weird setups. Ubiquiti has some great stuff for sure. The APs themselves are fantastic though. Why did you go with the Lites instead of a single pro? was it simply cost/coverage or is there another advantage in having multiple 2x2 vs a single 3x3 mimo setup?

It was cost/coverage. I have a two storey house plus finished basement that I wanted to cover properly. In my experimentation I couldn't get one AP to get good coverage on all three floors so I opted to go two APs. Now I don't get a Pro so not sure if that would have done the job. But two AC lites work like a champ. And to be fair the APs are easy to configure and manage, the ERL on the other required a bit of work. Port forwarding, static routes (for US Netflix etc...)

Some devices may not like there are two separate APs using the same SSID in very close proximity and may end up flipping back and forth between the two APs. Since you do not have newer APs that will do the steering and handoff, it's safer to do the dual SSIDs.

Up to you though, depends on your devices really and how they handle things. Pick as needed.

Its really tempting for me to get an ERL/USG and an AC Pro. I'm resisting the urge for now though, lol.

Maybe when the next generation of stuff comes out.

Ubiquiti just refreshed the AP's and released new AC AP's. But the ERL is probably due for a refresh, even though its more than adequate for what I ask of it.
