At least this one has a happy ending as the Japanese filed a protest and got the results overturned. I don't know if the Azerbaijani fighter was dominating the first couple rounds, but this definitely looks sketchy.

Ridiculous. I love boxing but its yet another issue with a judged event at the Olympics. Its not even the first time we've seen issues with boxing at the Olympics, and people are just unable to compete fairly (or have the judges score fairly).

There is an Irish boxer who just went off on the AIBA yesterday. Gave the judges the finger, then ranted on Irish media about how corrupt they are.
My only response was "Yeah, we knew that decades ago."

Do you want an umbrella tip in the thigh? Because that's how you get an umbrella tip in the thigh.

Ryan Lochte ordered to not leave Brazil...but already has.

Brazil might want to drop this.... doesn't look good going after the victim in this situation.

What would really be disconcerting is if someone, high profile athlete or not, made this claim and no serious investigation took place at all.

Why would they(swimmers) have made that up? A holdup in Rio is not out of the ordinary, i would give the benefit of the doubt to the swimmers. Why assume corruption?

Rio is an extremely dangerous city. Getting robbed happens all the time. If I was the victim of a crime and a judge in some banana republic ordered me to turn in my passport I'd get on the first place back to my country.

Sounds pretty rough.

It is looking bleak for the paralympic games.
"Host countries typically help cover the costs of bringing athletes from around the world to the Games. But Paralympic officials now say grants from Brazil to help pay for that travel are overdue, potentially jeopardizing the ability of Paralympians in roughly 50 countries to make the trip."

Why would Lochte lie about this? I just don't see any motive. Nothing really to gain, but absolutely everything for him to lose.

lol. If we're going to go down this route, their "good reason" is that Brazillian authorities are corrupt and embarrassed.

He wants attention and was probably doing something after a party that he probably shouldn't have.
How often do you have robbers let you keep valuables like smartphones and expensive watches? Not to mention the stories being told have apparently been different (one time it was two robbers, the other it was a single robber). Reportedly they have video of them getting back joking around with their valuables.

Also, I thought it was really odd that the story he told seemed to imply that he could understand what the robbers were saying. Cant imagine that random Rio favella dwellers would speak enough English to actually be understood.

He could understand them, but was so brave and awesome that even with a gun to his head he refused to comply. The guy is just super awesome and not an attention seeking idiot at all.
