Sounds more like he does not care, because Vesey probably wanted nothing to do with the flames.
He was making a general statement with regards to how much attention college UFA is getting right now. Not that the players are worthless, but that they rarely make the impact that justifies the hype.

He did compliment Vesey saying that he thinks he will be a great player.

I don't care where he ends up as long as it is not Chicago

According to Mark Divver, Vesey will meet with Chicago, Rangers and Bruins today.

Mark Divver reported Vesey met with Leafs, Isles, Pens, and Devils yesterday.

Ryan Rishaug reported Vesey met again the Sabres on August 14.

Red Wings assistant GM told Mlive.com, that Vesey's agent told the Red Wings he preferred to play closer to home (source). Considering Detroit is closer to home than Chicago, but only roughly an extra 15 minutes by airplane than Toronto or Buffalo, more likely he didn't like how the organization currently sits.

James Mirtle @mirtle
John Tavares in Boston as part of Islanders bid to recruit Jimmy Vesey. Teams going all out for this kid. Lot of teams still in play.

Mark Divver @MarkDivver
No specifics, but 3 of 4 teams brought players to Vesey meetings on Tuesday.

As well he shouldn't. Detroit had a freakishly bad offseason. I mean look at this...

https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/redwings

... To me that only looks like a bubble team, they're roughly 5M over the upper limit, and all their bad money is long term (and mostly on the wrong side of 30).

Mark Divver @MarkDivver
Patrick Kane was part of the Chicago contingent that met with Jimmy Vesey & Co. in Boston on Wed., sources confirm.

Surprised it wasn't Toews, Vesey would most likely be playing on Toews's wing. Kane and Panarin seem to be a lock together. Regardless I really hope he doesn't end up in Chicago, that's not even fair.

That's fair. Chicago has been subsidizing the league with it's cap victims for a while now. Ladd, Buff, Versteeg, Sharp, Leddy, etc

I haven't been following this at all - did the Sabres still lose their pick? LOL if so...how did they not work a conditional element in?

That's very true. Look at all the players that have come up through the Hawks only to get shipped out due to the cap and become key players on other teams.

Ladd, Buff, Versteeg, Sharp, Leddy, Saad, Frolik, Niemi, Brouwer, etc.

Yet they decided to give a pay day to Brian Bickell

Despite reports, no team has been told it is out of the running, according to Donatelli.

"No, that's not true at all," Donatelli said. "None of the teams we met with have been told that. Everyone is still in the mix. We're going to try and drill down right now to a few [teams] and then either call some teams with some questions or not. We'll probably reach out to a few teams with some questions that we think were either unanswered or we want clarification on, but that's the intent today."

The Blackhawks' Patrick Kane was in Boston for Chicago's meeting with Vesey. The Devils' Cory Schneider and Kyle Palmieri spoke with Vesey, too. The Rangers' Kevin Hayes, a Boston native, has talked with Vesey numerous times this summer while both work out together. The Islanders' John Tavares was also in Boston on Tuesday to make his pitch on behalf of the organization. When the Bruins hosted Vesey at the team's new practice facility, numerous Bruins players were in attendance to greet him. Also, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby also reached out to Vesey.
Mike Grinelli, a Boston radio source, says a family friend of Vesey told him that Vesey really likes New Jersey

Hope the guy soaks it all in because this is by far the most attention he's going to get in his career.

Yep. 13 page thread on a team forum that has zero chance of signing him. Will eventually sign and that will be the last we hear of him until the inevitable story of him being in the press box during the season because he's not ready or not that good.

I know that's the narrative that people want to believe but he's a good player and prospect. Not every guy that comes out of college with hype is a bad player. Blake Wheeler and Dan Dekeyser ended up being pretty darn good.

Vesey is a good player. Whoever signs him will be fortunate to add a quality prospect at no cost.

It is down the Chicago or New York Rangers per Arthur Staple of Newsday (Isles beat writer).
