I think the distinctions between a #1 centre, a "true" #1 centre, and an "elite" #1 centre, are all generally pretty meaningless.

Monahan reminds me a lot of Steve Yzerman. He's not super flashy but has a high hockey IQ and is clutch when the team needs him. I can really see him wearing the c for the Flames one day as well. I can also picture him hoisting the Stanley Cup wearing the flaming C to. He's with good conpany on that good list.

Yes.

I don't throw around the word "elite" as loosely as you I guess, which is fine, it's mostly subjective and meaningless at this point.

A "quality two way center" is huge, huge praise for a 21 year old.

He can be the best centre we've had since we last won the cup without anyone having to call him elite. We're very lucky.

As an Oiler hater, I can honestly say that if McDavid plays the entire season he's probably in the race for the Art Ross and will definitely be pushing for a top centre spot.

This scares the crap out of me, I am very worried, he can put the Oilers over the top, how do we answer that?

One player can't put a poorly constructed team over the top. Hockey is too much of a team game. What will McDavid play at most? 1/3 the game?

McDavid is finally a good start for them. Using the term "put the Oilers over the top" seems an exaggeration. They have consistently been one of the worst teams in the league the past number of years. No one player can put them over the top since they are nowhere near the top.

God, you keep repeating this same question despite the numerous times posters have responded by pointing out that McDavid is but ONE PLAYER in a crap organisation surrounded by a sea of garbage. Just stop, already and repeat after me:

The Flames are fine and Edmonton is no good.

McDavid ahead of Backstrom.

That's all I needed to know to say F*** that list.

The Oilers record was worse with McDavid in the lineup compared to without.

Neither record was good though, even with Talbot playing outstanding for stretches.

Also been repeated several times...but the better McDavid does the more his next contract costs the Oil and the more Cap Pain they'll feel.

They're already up against it as the 29th best team in the league.

You think the return was bad for Hall? Wait until they have to dump Ebs or RNH for cap reasons. Literally they could be give-aways. Maybe it would be smart for them to not protect one or both for the expansion draft?

Anyhow - No more Oiler talk. We are lucky to have Mony and Bennett and Backlund put the Flames in an enviable "C" position.

Given the contrived premise (only one center per team, ranking is as of right now without projection), I don't think it is all that bad. Bergeron a little high, perhaps.

Yeah, I didn't find the rankings that out to lunch. Monahan at 15 at this stage of his career is pretty sweet really.

You have no idea, how much time I spend, matching Flames lineups against McDavid lineup. And when ever I turn on tv to see Flames news he is right there(so I stopped that and come here for Flames news).

It calms me down knowing that after years of drafting very high they could not do anything and we got good players the years they had high picks in 2011 they got Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and we got Johnny, in the 2012 they got Yakpov and we got Mark Jankowski(Mark can be better than their first overall), in 2013 we got Monahan and they got Nurse(we may have gotten the better player), even in 2015, when they got the evil McDavid, we went to the 2nd round of the playoffs, we were able to nab a top D man. This gives me comfort.

I wouldn't recommend taking MMF's advice at any time.

The list has Schieffele and Barkov ahead of Giroux. Enough said. Move on, nothing to see here.
