I'm actually pretty jazzed that this game doesn't have a multiplayer mode. Last thing I need is to have the exploration aspect ruined by leaderboards and ten year-olds spree-killing and calling everyone homos.

Was playing on PC today and everything was going fine. Liked the game and was glad I bought it. Walked through a door in a camp and all of a sudden the frame rate dropped ridiculously. So bad I had to get out. Go to Steam and see the reviews. Brutal. And mine crashed once I got 3 hours in. Not sure if I should try to get a refund or wait for a patch.

If you're 3 hours in it might be tough to get a refund.
I played for about 90 minutes. I got around 60fps on land at 1440p with medium settings. It did stutter quite badly at times, but for the most part it was a decent framerate. I didn't have any crashes yet. They definitely need to work on optimization, especially when the textures are pretty poor.

Am I better off getting the console version instead of PC? My computer would run it fine but I would rather not deal with poor optimization

Landed in a system/planet that had been discovered by someone else! Didn't think that would happen for a while, if ever.
Though he'd only discovered the system and the one planet -- I went through and discovered everything else (another two planets and a moon). It's likely he landed there and signed off. Still, pretty cool. I sent the guy a message on PSN.

Yeah that's kind of insane. If there are some 18 quadrillion planets, there has to at least be a couple trillion systems. How many PS4 players do you think there are? Maybe 200k or so? I'm not a math whiz but it seems it would take quite a while for all the systems to be discovered. I still haven't gotten fuel for my warp drive yet so I'll be stuck in the current system for a while.

I would try it on PC, especially since it's cheaper. If you find it's unplayable you can get a refund within 2 hours of playtime. The download is only 2.5GB too.

Yeah, I give it a 25% chance of getting one. So I may as well hope for a fix soon.
On the bright side, before it went down I discovered an animal that was essentially a pineapple on coke that kept running into things. I named her Taylor Hall.

I think if you could see the name of a discovered waypoint/destination while flying would be a big help.
Also the inventory management can be a piss off but I think that is the nature of the game. Discover, mine and make choices.

From what I've read Eve Online is really nasty for newer players because of teh economic and multiplayer aspect of the game.
And you have to be a hardcore player to survive in it.
I still read some amazing stories of major thefts and revenge kills that are astonishing.

I have hesitated to play this until people have been playing it for a while, although I'm certain I will get this game eventually, from what I hear just the first 10hrs are worth it alone, maybe just not 60 usd worth.

the concept of this game is so much like how I think of star trek voyager... and a huge part of me wants to play it for that reason alone.
some of the steam reviews are amazing both for the humour and for the depth of comment; far better than many commercial reviews I have read.
I remain very intrigued by this game.

I'm just gonna wait 6 months until it's cheaper and all patched up. Looks fun but it also has some major flaws right now.

As someone who use to play Eve, you are not wrong. But in the EVE world you are put into systems that already have tonnes of other players. NMS would be different in the sense that meeting up someone would be a rarer event which would change the dynamics of the economics, with more emphasis on self reliance.
I hope we will some day be able to build a base and store ships at the base. I want to be able to have access to a freighter when im trying to make units while being able to switch to a faster craft for exploration without having to sell my ship everytime.
Still I'm about 15 hours in now and I am hooked.

Awesome day at Hello Games, we're going to make some people very happy with a PC and PS4 patch that's in test right now

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they patched in the "missing" multiplayer that so many were lamenting on release? I know it just wouldn't make a whole lot of sense when there are are more important game impacting bugs to be fixed, but I kind of just want to see the extremely limited multiplayer that Sean Murray had mentioned years/months before release come to fruition, especially after all the hate he/they were directed.
But the realist thinks there are more important things they should fix. I'm pretty chill about this game, so nothing much has bothered me, but I have had it completely lock up my PS4 a couple of times. No other game has ever done that before! I guess thankfully both times were within 30 seconds or so of a save. I guess besides crashes, the one gameplay thing I would like is better waypoint management. Like the ability to cancel waypoints, and maybe manually set them. I don't need anything too fancy like a map, but I know others would love that.
