Crappy start for Sanchez, 3 straight batters just slap it into right.

Blue Jays win!! Sanchez, Grilli and Osuna shut the door after the 1st inning. Another very impressive performance by the Jays pitchers.

Solid win but it would be nice to see the Jays start hitting again, it seems the all star break threw them off their rhythm and they still haven't got it back.

Team would be very scary if the hitting was clicking all at once, one or two guys here and there it seems like.

Pitching has been dominant and the acquisition of Grilli cannot be overstated, he's been fantastic in his role.

It was great to see Sanchez fight through when he didn't seem to have his best stuff.

Remember that last years offence was a real juggernaut. This years offence is good, but its nowhere close to last year. JD has been slumping since the Allstar Break and he drives the offence now. EE still producers, and Travis is emerging as a real producer. At this point what Tulo and Martin have given you is what you'll get. Saunders and Smoak strikeout more than they make contact, and you have two weak bats in the outfield until Bautista returns. Bautista's decline this year is a huge subtraction.

To keep winning the team is going to have to lean on the pitching.

It would be nice if they could find another OF/1B bat to add for the next month.

Still cant figure out why they extended Smoak. Is a good defender at first that valuable? To me he looks like a guy who should be at camp on a tryout.

Marcus Alomar Stroman with a ridiculously aggressive and dumb play costs the Jays a run. 1-1

Weak ground ball single
Then a hit batter
Two weak fly outs to left field
Then a sad little grounder that only made it about 10 feet from home plate which Stro throws away

At least he got out of it only giving up the one run I guess.

Smoak-Upton-Cecilliani might be worse than Pillar-Goins-Thole

With Stroman, part of what makes him a really good pitcher is his aggressiveness. It is a big part of his personality and I don't know if the team can/or should take that away from him. I think they'll need to accept that he will make mistakes from being overaggressive.

Pillar is a productive hitter. Goins isn't much of a power bat but he can still do helpful things at the plate - Upton is a complete black hole at the plate. Cecilliani looks to be just as bad as Thole.

So yes. I'd agree with you.

I'm waiting for Upton to do push-ups every time he pops up. That's all I've seen him do, the defense is there but we need hits.

Cecilliani is useless, has Pompey been so bad this year that he can't get a call up?

My god Smoak and Upton are terrible. 2 on, no outs, followed by two straight Ks on terrible at bats.

Hard to watch those two back to back.

Upton swings at everything and then sits on a curve ball in the centre of the strike zone.

Heyyyyy Cecilliani!
