Default Thursday August 11

I'm going to post this early because I've had some drinks to celebrate the relay medal, and I may not be up in time for the start of the golf tournament. We now have 6 medals with the chance for more over today's events!

Golf starts us off today with the start of the Men's Tournament. DeLaet tees off at 4:30, Hearn at 6:25. I believe that TSN2 will be carrying the golf event all morning. As was mentioned in the golf thread we are the defending Gold Medal Champions from the last Olympic Golf Tournament in 1904.

Rowing events that were cancelled yesterday are re-scheduled for today, hopefully the weather cooperates.

The badminton tournament gets underway today with matches beginning at 5. Calgarian Martin Giuffre will play his first match at 16:30. He's the only Canadian in action today.

Kyle Reyes takes part in the Round of 32 of Men's 100kg Judo, match scheduled to happen at 7:20.

The Albertan beach volleyball pair of Chaim Schalk and Ben Saxton face a Cuban team at 8. Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas take on the Egyptian team at 12:30. Heather Bansley and Sarah Pavan face a German team at 19:00. There's also lucky loser matches throughout the evening, so plenty of beach volleyball to watch.

Canada faces Ireland in field hockey at 8:00, and I'm pretty sure it will be on Sportsnet.

Arthur Biyarslanov, who moved to Canada from Chechnya when he was 4 fights in the round of 32 in the Men's 64kg boxing at 8:45.

Nestor and Pospisil will face Nadal and Lopez in the semifinal for Men's Doubles, this will take place around 12:00 and will be shown live on Sportsnet One.

The Women's Individual All-Around Final in Artistic Gymnastics happens at 13:00. Ellie Black who won 5 medals at last year's Pan Am Games, 3 of them gold, has qualified. Isabela Onyshko has also qualified.

For early swimming action Santo Condorelli and Calgarian Yuri Kisil are taking part in the Men's 50m Freestyle Qualifying heats at 10, Santo was first to touch the wall at 50m in the 100m Final, so he's certainly got a shot here. Brittany Maclean is set to compete in the Women's 800m Freestyle qualifying at 10:26. Condorelli is back in the pool for the Men's 100m Butterfly heats at 11:16. At 11:36 the heats for the Women's 200m Backstroke begin, Dominique Bouchard who won silver in this event at the Pan Ams and Hilary Caldwell who won gold at the Pan Ams are trying to qualify for Canada.

The Women's Cycling Team Pursuit Qualifications start at 13:19, Canada will be defending the Bronze medal won in London. The Canadian team has been on the podium in every World Cup and World Championship event since winning Bronze in London.

At 14:00 Canada takes on France in volleyball and should be on TSN.

At 16:00 the gold medal match in the Rugby 7's competition will take place, the bronze match is right before it and both should be on TSN2.

Kierra Smith swims in the 200m Breaststroke Final at 19:17. Phenom Penny Oleksiak will swim for Gold in the 100m Freestyle Final at 20:18. Swimming will be on CBC.

Go Canada Go!

Just wait - I was going through tomorrow's schedule and with athletics (especially the heptathlon), trampoline and individual diving starting along with ongoing swimming/rowing/tennis/soccer there's going to be a lot happening!

Just curious..for those of you watching at work, how much of it are you streaming? Like a couple hrs, etc? We've got a blurb on our home page about "responsible Olympic streaming", so these first 3 Olympic work days I've only streamed about a combined 15min. But with so much going on today combined with a dead work sked, I'd like to keep an eye on a couple of these events.

Basically I guess I'm just wondering at what point do you cross the line from "responsible streaming" to deadbeet employee slowing down their network. How much on average have you all been streaming?

I was streaming way more during Euro 2016. But sometimes I have the stream going in the background and I just listen to the commentary.

Mixed doubles isn't even scheduled yet for today. But Simon and Rafa have played 4 games in 25 minutes so it will be a grueling match.

Yeah this is kinda what I was thinking too. I'm literally the only sports fan in my entire office (don't even get me started..), so I don't think many would understand if they saw me watching it on my computer. So i was thinking of mostly listening.

This is probably already common knowledge, but it wasn't for this tech troglodyte..i was chatting with an IT guy who said the way they monitor that stuff isn't by what you're watching, but rather by how much bandwidth you're using. So even if you're just listening with it minimized, streaming HD video for that long will rack up bandwidth, and may stand out to IT. But sounds like they didn't care, if you never heard anything, so that's a good sign.
