Swimmers drop out because they have other races to be in later the same day usually. Be better if they didnt enter, then their place could be filled by someone else. Canada did that, the third place finisher from the trials took the spot.

Anyone else read about Katinka Hosszu and her crazy husband/coach, the immediate weight gains that others noticed after he began coaching her, how there are reports that he might be abusive, and that no one is really convinced she is doing what she is doing without PEDs?

Apparently the water polo pool, which I believe is beside the diving pool, has also turned green. I'm quite surprised that the diving events haven't been postponed. That water doesn't look healthy. I'm sure Brazilian authorities have said the water is fine but I wouldn't trust it.

I don't perform cupping, I don't use it, and I don't recommend it. But to claim, with certainty, it does nothing is pseudoscience in itself. There are theories, however weak, to justify it's use (ie increases blood flow, a change in inflammatory markers, etc) so until it's disproven it isn't necessarily pseudoscience.

How much is a reasonable amount of money thrown at study after study enough to convince you it is pseudoscience.?
All positive studies come out of China from biased sources. While any well constructed study did not show any benefit.
All pseudoscience supporter use the same argument you just did. At some point you are just throwing money away to try and convince the unconvinceable.
Same with the millions spent on studies trying to link MMR to autism. You will not change their minds.
Anyways. Go Canada ! Looking forward to the swimming tonight

I didn't read that or know of its existence. Its probably a comment on me as much as anything, but anytime an athlete comes out and is suddenly destroying everyone else I assume its with PEDs. I have a hard time thinking that the training is just better, or that they are just that much better. I don't mean that when they're close but edge the others out, but when they're winning and its not close, I just can't help it.

Not looking good for NZ in the sevens, but still early in their QF against Fiji. This sevens tournament is starting to look for NZ like Nagano 98 for Canadian hockey.

Also, I was in Fiji just a few months ago and they love their rugby. There was sevens on one day and the entire resort staff just stopped working the whole time Fiji was playing. A medal here would be so huge for that country, probably their biggest sporting achievement ever.

But it's not like Hosszu has come out of nowhere. She's been progressing for years.

Yeah I'm just overly cynical for sure. I just can't help it. I love the olympics and still watch basically everything, so it doesn't take away from my enjoyment.

American dominates -- Must be training
Foreigner dominates -- Must be PEDs

It's probably not the worst thing to give old man Nestor a day off.

Hadn't heard of her before these games & wife & I couldn't believe the dominance against the other athletes.
Anyway from these discussions here thought I'd take a look for info & noticed along with twitter she had a website & branding herself as Iron Lady...
http://katinkahosszu.com/page/bio
- comic book
- selling supplements, etc
- detailing her career and so forth
