Default Wednesday August 10

Starting the thread a bit early because I'm not sure if I'll have time in the morning before the events begin. Our medal total is now at 5, with another bronze added yesterday. More chances for medals today with 11 sports taking place!

The Women's Road Time Trial starts at 5:30, the Men's is scheduled to start at 7 and these should both be on TSN2. Tara Whitten from Edmonton and Karol-Ann Canuel race for the women. Hugo Houle races for the Men, in a field that includes Tour De France winner Chris Froome.

Canada rowing in Heat 2 of the Women's Lightweight Double Sculls semis around 5:50. Also the Men's Fours semi-final has Canada going in the second heat, the first heat is at 6:30, so I imagine it will be shortly after that. Calgarian Nicole Hare and her partner Jennifer Martins row in the Women's Pair Final at 9:30. All rowing events will be on CBC.

The Women's Singles Semifinals in Table Tennis take place at 7 and should be fun to watch, the finals are at 17:30.

21 year old Eleanor Harvey who won gold at the Pan Am Games last summer will fence in the Round of 32 in the Women's Individual Foil at 6:35. Joseph Polossifakis who won silver at the Pan Am Games fences in the Men's Individual Sabre at 10:25.

Kelita Zupancic who won gold at the Pan Am Games participates in the Round of 16 in the Women's 70kg Judo. This starts at 8:30 and from what I can find might be on CBC.

For early day swimming members of the Bronze Medal winning 4X 100m Women's Freestyle Relay Chantal Van Landegham and new Canadian star Penny Oleksiak take part in 100m Freestyle heats at 10. Pan Am gold medalist Kierra Smith swims in the 200m Breaststroke at 10:45. At 11:30 the Canada goes in Heat 1 of the Women's 4x200m Freestyle Relay, if they qualify the final will take place at 20:55. All of these swimming events should be on CBC.

Nestor and Pospisil face Nadal and Lopez in the semi-finals of Men's Doubles... The best I can find searching online is that this should start at 12:30, can't find what channel though.

No Canadians in the field but the Men's 3m Synchronized Diving Final is at 13:00

The Women's Basketball Team takes on Senegal, who recently won the African Championship. The odds I'm seeing for this game have Canada as 30.5 point favourites, so this should be a win and will take place on CBC at 14:45. Also in basketball the US Men take on Australia at 16:00.

Santo Condorelli will swim for gold at 20:00 in the Men's 100m Freestyle Final at 8, it'll be on CBC.

Go Canada Go!

All of the rowing events were cancelled due to the weather, no word on re-scheduling yet

Nestor and Pospisil likely not on until at least 5pm MST. Nadal has three matches today, and is locked into a not before 2pm MST for his mixed doubles match, so it's likely he doesn't get to men's doubles until late.

Eleanor Harvey has moved onto the quarterfinals in individual foil (fencing) with a 15-11 win over her Italian opponent. Her QF match should be around 9am mtn or 11am est.

That Judo match that just ended between Netherlands and Japan was pretty entertaining, Canada against Georgia now.

7th is decent, too bad the weather didn't co-operate. Kristin Armstrong kicked ass again.

Daniel Nestor has to rank close to the most under appreciated Canadian athlete ever. Dude will go down as one of the best doubles players ever.

Love watching the contrast between the grizzled vet and the kid.

So the tennis schedule is now totally messed up because of rain. I think with tomorrow being an off day for doubles there's a decent chance we see PopNest moved to tomorrow now.
