Normally I would agree with you that it would be great if people talked more about actual policy. Not with Trump though.
His character is pretty much his main message. He keeps saying that people should vote for him because he is so awesome and his awesomeness would make him a great president. So, let's talk about that. Is he somehow awesome? What exactly is his personality? The results of this public discussion are not turning out to be pretty, but again I would argue that he totally asked for all of this. He has made such a big deal about his outrageous personality that he has almost been begging for outrageous questions about his personality.
Second, what's there really to say about Trumps policies? He talks about it so little and it's so confusing that there only public discussion people could have about that is "does he have policies"? That's not a very long discussion.

Btw, I'm pretty sure the "2nd amendment" thing from Trump was just another joke that mostly shows his bad taste and lack of judgment.

Of course, because the quality of the discussion has been so magnificent without him.
Oh wait. Actually, it seems the problem is not with any one poster.

I've put him on ignore and I would strongly suggest that everyone else should too. He is the worst troll I've ever seen on this board, and contributes absolutely nothing to any discussion, seriously.

That's the point. What if, for instance, he had a charming personality. Would that make him more suitable to be president?
As for his policies, I think they generally are economic, immigration, and role-of-government related.
The economic ones alone should disqualify him. He believes in restricting trade, and repatriating "jobs" through artificial means and government policy.
Immigration, he is obviously restrictive, which we know is counter to good economic development, but is also related to his economic policy.

Trump's words were absolutely referring to assassination. There is no weaseling out of it and only a moron could rationalize his words otherwise. The party of Lincoln is now the party of John Wilkes Booth.

Yes.
But that's as far as I'm interested in having that discussion. I was simply commenting on why I think discussion on Trumps personality is totally fair, and I've said my piece about that. Agree or disagree, this is all I have to say about that.

I agree that his policies would also disqualify him. But who here cares?
Hands up anyone here who thinks a discussion about Trumps policies might change the way they're going to vote in the US presidential election?
I certainly don't care enough to talk about them.

I can't stand Hilary Clinton and would have voted for anyone with policies that are reasonable. Sadly, Trumps policies don't even border on sanity. The Republican Party failed the United States in the biggest way. They could have run a moderate, instead they gave us a bunch of loons on the far right with even loonier positions. I'm being forced to hold my nose, no check that, wear a hazmat suit, and vote for Clinton.

1. assassination
2. some sort of states' rights overthrow secede BS

4. militia action of some kind?
Without prior knowledge of his statement, I don't think I would have gone to #1 first. Probably 2 or 3 maybe?

You find his bombast relevant, but his policies irrelevant.
What I find strange about this, is that it is exactly how he is gaining his supporters. (You happen to dislike his style, but some people love it.) People complain about the fact that Trump discusses nothing substantive, and then immediately participate in that non-substantive morass.
What's also interesting is that Clinton didn't start really climbing in the polls relative to Trump until she also stopped talking about policy, and switched to more superficial criticisms. To my ear, it just sounds like people having the political version of a Kim vs Chloe Kardashian argument.

Can't you vote for Johnson in good conscience? I know that he has some policies that would only appeal to people with a libertarian bent, but he's clearly the best choice for President between the three of them.

So once again trying to redirect the train onto the right tracks, I wonder if Trump's 2A comment could backfire in a different way. What he said or implied or whatever he does, he's basically saying supporters of it are inherently violent, ready to take up arms and kill. While there no doubt is a small minority who probably are, implying all of them could be could cost him a few more votes.

Check out the guy with the white hair and red shirt when Trump makes his 2nd Amendment comment. Being right behind the candidate at the rally, he's presumably a big Trump supporter, and there was clearly no confusion in his mind what Trump was saying.
