Should I be scared? This sounds a little beyond anything I'm used to.

For most of my life I have been a pedestrian hip fan and I had seen them in concert years ago; however, seeing them on Monday has caused me to listen a little harder to thier music and I have to say some of the lyrics in ahead by a century are very profound.
Better late than never i suppose

This is gonna sound like just bitching for the sake of bitching, but goddamn, the CBC is showing the ad for the final concert every commercial break in the Olympics.

If I had a choice between that (at least there are a couple versions) and the usual annual ad CBC has for Happy Gilmore that they're going to be showing in 3-4+ weeks time, I'll take the former.
And, CBC will do it right, as they do most Canadiana, although the vibe and structure may be different than the shows this tour so far, it being the "end", such as it is, hometown etc, and with millions watching on TV.

Ha, fair enough re: Happy Gilmore.
I'm sure they'll do it right too, just kinda getting tired of the opening riffs to Wheat Kings and Grace, Too every five minutes. Like I said, bitching for bitching's sake. I mean that's what a message board is for!

That SNL performance of Nautical Disaster is wonderful. One of my favourite songs. Happy this was posted as I'd never seen it before. The finality of it all is starting to sink in.

I was looking at the schedule today.
I found it odd that they won't play a show east of Ottawa.

Rick Mercer on why the Tragically Hip isn’t famous in the U.S.
http://www.cbcmusic.ca/posts/12496/w...mous-in-the-us
This was the curse of being the Hip, they would go to Fillmore, a famous venue, and they would sell out in five minutes. But, no Americans could get in. By the time they were like, 'What's this happening in this sold-out show with this insane band,' you couldn't get in because every Canadian filled up the space.

I think the second Edmonton set list is as good as it got for the western swing of this tour. And both Nautical Disaster and Small Town Bring Down are conspicuous by their absence obviously at this point.
How bout this scenario: STBD as the opener at the Kingston show and ND as the final song of the main set with Courage as the final song of the last encore. That'd be a fitting wrap up.

Going tonight. Wasn't supposed to be here, so bought a ticket from a guy on Kijiji. Already met up with him and paid half. He and his buds had one ticket free. Seems like the perfect solution - though it will be a bit embarassing crying infront of strangers.

I wonder if Gord has been writing more on this tour.

I actually saw The Hip at essentially what amounts to a bar in Portland, Maine in 2001. We headed down to see a Perfect Circle in Portland, and noticed the night before the Perfect Circle concert that there were flyers up for the Tragically Hip at a local Portland place. We all loved the Hip and thought it was too good to be true, and brushed it off as a cover band. None of us had cellphones with internet capabilities back then (and still had PCs instead of laptops) so it wasn't the easiest to confirm.
We start drinking early in the afternoon and kept saying to ourselves, "What if it is them, we'll regret it forever". We decided we can't take that chance and head over to the bar.
Sure enough in front of like 300-400 people it's the actual band. Still to this day I can't fathom why they were wasting their time playing Portland, Maine in a small venue. Must have been trying to make some in roads in the US.

Similar story ..... I saw them in a bar in Tempe, standing 6 feet away because no one else knew who they were. This was at the peak of their fame in Canada (not counting the current tour)
