FlyBy on Strava is super funny if you speed it up and watch your commute home, it's like ants scurrying around once the quitting bell rings.

Where does one find this FlyBy stuff? Can't see it on the app or desktop view of Strava.

Hmmmm, I'm not a premium member. Browser maybe?

Anyway, you can go to the Strava Flyby website and view it. Here is how:

1. Open one of your activities.

2. Copy the URL of that activity.

3. Open strava flyby:
http://labs.strava.com/flyby/
4. Paste your activity URL in the space at the top right of page at step 3.

The Olympic Men's Road Race is on now; I'm streaming it on CBC. There is a section of cobbles that is causing all kinds of problems. Lots of mechanicals from punctures to loose seat posts to even water bottle cages.

I'm watching on Sportsnet. I surprised they're showing the entire race. Still 80+kms left. I started almost 3 hours ago...
I might go for a ride and then come back to catch the end.

Rode bragging right and Merlin again this morning, legs were very heavy and the ride was a lot of work.
Trail was in solid shape. 96% dry and dusty, a few damp spots and a couple of very muddy sections that need to be walked around.

I'm contemplating moving my winter beater (a 98 Cannondale F700) over to a 1x11 setup. Looks like I can complete kits off of Chain Reaction for about $400-600.
Part that concerns me is labor - I'm not adept enough pull something like that off myself.

 - How much would this cost be in labour if I bring this to a shop in town? (I'm open to suggestions as to where)
 - Alternatively, anyone know a good independent mechanic that would do this cheaper than a LBS?

^ I'd be nervous about ordering a kit and then have it not fit for some stupid reason. Personally, I'd suggest consulting someone knowledgeable first before ordering something.
You could likely buy a new fatbike for $1000 in a few months.

I would guess $200 in labour at a shop. Someone in this thread is a bike Doctor (I can't recall who right now) you just have to go back and read.

I converted a 3x9 to 1x10 for a client earlier this summer. Labour cost was about $150 if I remember correctly. Would be similar for a 1x11. Id recommend going full housing for the shifter. No point spending $$$ to get 1x11 on your winter bike and messing it up the first ride with grime in the housing.

I assume you are getting the 1x11 stuff from shimano?

I was thinking Shimano XT. Unless SLX or even SRAM had characteristics that would make it better for winter riding (ie slush, -20 C days, rust sensitivity).
I just might give you a PM Andy if I go through with this....

Why 1X11, if I may ask? For a winter, round-town beater, why not 1X10 for 40% less $ and less weight? The advantage of 11 speed cassettes (big climbing sprocket) will not make a lick of difference in town, on pavement.

Anybody do the Ride to Conquer Cancer last weekend? How was it? Did it get rained out or have much fewer participants? I did it for the past two years but it was very difficult fund raising this year and it was a summer of constant rain.

today I dislike myself even more than usual as the alarm went off this morning, I could tell it was dark outside so I hit snooze and then wound up driving to work.
When I went outside to leave I noticed how nice it really was and really wish I would have ridden to work.

forecast fore fernie for the balance of the week is rain Tuesday/Wednesday and then sunny with temps in low to mid 20's - would have liked it hotter, but will be happy to see the sun for a few days in a row.

Don't feel bad - I did the EXACT same thing! I even have a brand new bike in the garage I was excited to ride in on. |

Sounds like you've run both setups - any thoughts as to what would work better for reliability in the dead of winter ?

The bike may get pressed into moderate XC duty occasionally - wouldn't mind the extra climbing capabilities if the cost isn't great.

I did the ride this past weekend and it was fun. The ride itself was not all that hard if you ride a decent amount, some big hills at Priddis. Only rained for 20mins on Saturday for the ride part and no rain on Sunday so that was good.

Totally poured at tent city most of the night and I got soaked as did my sleeping bag and pillow in the tent, so that sucked but not that big of a deal. To the clowns who set off fireworks at 2am that was not cool!!! The farting and snoring serenade through out the night was a nice touch as well. (I had ear plugs in)

The ride is so well organized, every stop each 20-25kms has snacks, gatorade, water, washrooms. Lunches were decent as was dinner, the mobile shower truck works awesome, and the free massage was nice and one of the best ever, shout out to: http://prairietherapy.ca/
Oh and all the Steam Whistle beer you can consume.

I will do the ride again, tent city maybe not, parking a trailer or hotel room would be ideal. If you live in the south I would go home for the night. I was a bit cranky Sunday morning, but once I got riding and I warmed up it was fun again even the sun broke out just before noon.
