The one I respect most out of all of this is Shea Weber who kept quiet and will go about his business playing hockey.
Oh, c'mon. Everything PK says is national news these days. Even if Weber said something, we would never hear about it. He made a joke at a comedy gala where he raised almost $200k for a children's hospital. Nobody is going to get hurt by his joke.
I thought you were joking before because the idea that PK Subban is a dick is absolutely crazy.
Plus he has nothing but positive things to say about Montreal.
The fact that the Habs fans there generally love him even though he's been shipped out of town should tell you all you need to know.

No I meant it. If you donate do it quietly and out of the goodness of your heart. PK is doing it for self-promotion...
This is a rather incredible claim on your part. By the same rationale, virtually every donation ever made public must also be a matter of pure self promotion, and I refuse to accept that. Even for those people who are narcissistic enough to prioritise their public image in the case of donating large sums of money, there is in every charitable act some underlying sense of providing for the benefit of others.
I tend to think more often than not criticisms of beneficent actions are grounded in some underlying—occasionally unspoken and often subconscious dislike for the philanthropist that is unrelated to her/his philanthropy. In other words, you disliked Subban before you ever learned about his incredible act of generosity, and these prior feelings are colouring your evaluations of his subsequent actions.

Are you really surprised? He is the most colourful figure to play in the NHL in a fairly long time, and he carries himself extremely well in public, which results in a sadly rare combination of charisma and genuineness.
The popularity of Subban is no mystery. For my part, I think his relocation to a non-traditional but strong hockey market like Nashville could be one of the best things to happen to the League in a very long time.

PK is about PK and it is my feeling that he uses his charitable causes to promote PK. How much press will be called by PK's "people" every time PK goes back to that hospital. How about writing the checks and going through the back door to visit the sick children PK?
As was already stated, this publicity is a positive thing...it results in more donations from others.

If the Flames made a horrible trade and the player in question poked fun at them while making a major donation to a Calgary hospital...I'm pretty sure the majority of posters here (quite capable of criticizing the Flames for bone-headed decisions...see CalgaryNEXT thread) would be fine with it.
But you think it would be better for him to pull out of a charity fund raiser which he committed to months ago and raised over $150k so that no-ones feelings got hurt? SMRT
Expecting anyone, even if it's PK, to be politically correct AND perform a good roasting at a comedy festival is just unreasonable.
Also... $10 million is a truckload even for someone of his earnings. After escrow, taxes and agent cuts, his $11 million this year probably gets cut down to like $3-4 million ( if you assume Montreal's lenient tax rate.) So he basically donated 2-3 years of his prime playing career to the children's hospital.
Who the #### cares if it's a PR move at that point?

Hilarious.
The invite was to raise money for said charity so no. He's made a commitment to those kids and he's keeping it. What a horrible me, me, me thing to do.
#### the management, they can wear this. What players has he slagged? None.
Ridiculous post.

OMG, you were serious? Truly sorry I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Anyone who watched that video and said "what a dick" deserves a kick to his.

The final reason Subban mentioned for making this donation was to establish a legacy for his time in Montreal and, more generally, on Earth. With the bulk of his hockey career still ahead of him, he spoke eloquently of how he wanted to detach that from the legacy he still is shaping on the ice with the Canadiens.
"In life I believe you are not defined by what you accomplish, but by what you do for others," Subban said. "Sometimes I try to think, 'P.K., are you a hockey player or are you just someone who plays hockey?' I just play hockey. Because one day I won't be a hockey player anymore. I'll just be someone who played hockey. So what do I want people to remember me for other than being a hockey player?
"Well, every time you walk into this hospital, you'll know what I stand for."

If the Flames management traded our best player who also happened to contribute an enormous sum of money to the Children's Hospital here, I can guarantee not a lot of people here would be up in arms about our management being slagged. Heck, we would rag on management so hard you'd think this was an Oilers forum.
It has nothing to do with being biased.

I don't want to get involved with the whole PK thing.... But just for clarification he didn't pay that out of pocket. He is raising it. I think he donated 1mil.
For the reasons you stated, he couldn't have possibly donated that much out of pocket.
Stu Cowan of the Gazette is wondering why Shea Weber has yet to make an appearance in Montreal. Oh, Shea is gonna love the Montreal press...
Where’s Shea Weber?
That’s a question Canadiens fans must be asking, especially after the P.K. Subban All-Star Comedy Gala Monday night at Place des Arts. The event was a fundraiser for Subban’s foundation benefiting the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, to which he has maintained his pledge to raise $10 million over seven years, even after being traded to the Nashville Predators on June 29 in exchange for Weber.
While the Atrium P.K. Subban remains a fixture at the hospital and the former Norris Trophy winner has been in both Montreal and Nashville since the trade, Weber has yet to step foot in his new city more than a month after the blockbuster deal.
I feel bad for Weber after reading that. He can't even spend his offseason at his home with his family without being 'obliged' to meet with the fans/media because he owes them a courtesy visit.
Terrible article and exhibit A on why Montreal is a fishbowl.
