I'm not terribly educated as far as Baseball is concerned, but I'm liking these moves on their face

Solid trade. I like Hutchison, but to get a legit starter and a couple of prospects for a AAA pitcher is pretty good. Ramirez looks like a solid prospect.

Would have liked to have had Drew Hutchinson in case of an injury... but having another lefty was desperately needed.

Pirates fans are angry over this trade, which tells me it's good for Toronto. This prospect sounds legit.

Interesting perspective...

@davepaskar: @cooom @domewardbound Feldman becomes Chavez, Bolsinger becomes Hutch, Liriano comes out of thin air for $13M #BlueJays

I really like all these deals. One of the analysts on Sportsnet also pointed out that the Jays really haven't given up anything in any of the trades, so how can they be bad getting serviceable players back? I admittedly haven't seen Liriano in a year, so I have no idea if he's still dominant, but giving up Hutchinson isn't a high price if Liriano has the same stuff from about 2 seasons back.

Another thing: with the Yanks going into full sell mode, I'm going to make a bold prediction this offeseason they're going to go for 2 of Saunders, Bautista, Encarnacion. Something is up.

@SNBarryDavis: Change to the #BlueJays lineup. Donaldson out, Barney is in. http://twitter.com/SNBarryDavis/stat...587329/photo/1

Yeah, just seen that ERA - in the NL as well. I doubt Hutchinson ever figures himself out, so I have no problem with a vet like Liriano bring brought in.

edit: also see he's still a strikeout machine - 113 IP, 116 K's. Can always use those.

Liriano is also under contract for next year as well, so if he works out the Jays have a 5 man rotation already set for 2017 with Sanchez, Stroman, Estrada. Happ and Liriano.

Yankees are gearing up for Donaldson, Kershaw, and Harper in 2018 when all the contracts come off the books.

But yeah don't be surprised to see Jose playing for them next seasobn

McGuire was #8 and Ramirez was #9 prospect on Pirates list (according to Tim&Sid, who I never watch)

From managing editor for Baseball America..

JJ Cooper @jjcoop36
There are legit questions over whether Reese McGuire will ever hit. But he can defend, so has some value as a C.

JJ Cooper ‏@jjcoop36
Harold Ramirez can hit, but wouldn't play for the Pirates because he's behind Big Three + Meadows+Bell. But that's their #6 & #10 prospects

JJ Cooper ‏@jjcoop36
Needless to say, I LOVE this deal for the Blue Jays. If they released Liriano tonight, I'd love it for them.

Liriano had his best seasons pitching to Martin in Pittsburgh. Hopefully Martin can get him back on track.

Was it here where I read that if Sanchez goes to bullpen he won't be going back to starter at all?

Atkins said that exactly - if he goes to the pen, he's there for the rest of the year
