Interesting to see Jankowski not make it in the top 5. Great writeup though

Man, it's a good article, but the fact that you didn't mention Jankowski until the last paragraph...
I think many people here will disagree with that.
Otherwise, it's a nice writeup, but I just think Janko's a little too low.

Thanks for the write up. I see the comments about Andersson's strength issues, but nothing about overall fitness. I suppose it is all related.
Jankowski always controversial. Not everyone sees NHL upside in this guy.

I could see having all 5 of those guys above Janko (you could easily make a case to have him In there too). Eat Bread is the perfect sleeper pick. Tough to argue those picks.

Hard not to get excited about Mangiapane after that write up. I didn't know his skating was elite level. Could be an absolute steal for a 6th round pick. Back to back 100+ point seasons in OHL and didn't exactly play with any top rated prospects.

Darren Haynes did his top 20 and had Janko at number 5 just ahead of Shinkaruk. Personally I fee this board has overrated Janko quite a bit this summer. Some even had him as our top prospect. I think he is in that top 7 for sure but not shocking he didn't make this top 5 list

Haynes and the CP list had the same top 7 but in a different order, and I think that's fair. After the easy anointment of Tkachuk in the top spot in does become more a personal preference thing to slot in the next 6.

As others have said I have no problem with Jankowski out of the top 5.

Head scratcher how Janko isn't up there. I think having little Shinkaruk ahead of him is a mistake. Jankowski has the size, skating and skill to develop into a big top two line centre which are amongst the most valuable commodities in the NHL. His upside is a question mark? His upside is enormous and that's why he should easily be in our top 5 prospects IMO. I don't think Shinkaruk is signicantly more likely to be an NHLer and I don't think Shinkaruk's upside is as big as Janko's. I think Jankowski is being underrated and Shinkaruk being overrated. Just my opinion I guess, time will tell.
Do people really think VAN traded us an uber prospect for Granlund? I like Shinkaruk and think he has a chance to be an NHLer but if both players hit their upside Jankowski will be far more valuable.

And common' top two guy? Lets not get too excited here. Janko spends the year on the farm

Janko has a fine upside but so far his actual production has been underwhelming whereas Shinkaruk has been producing at every level. Having said that I have Shinkaruk, Jankowski and Kylington pretty even.
His write up makes me hungry to see more of Mangiapane though.

I am very calm just have strong opinions on this subject
I agree he likely spends the majority of the season in the AHL. That's because he needs to learn pro, continue to fill out and to learn how to use his size to his advantage at the pro level.
He has the skill set to be a top two line centre. That's why we picked him in the first round and nothing has changed.

His production last year was good.. His production as a rookie pro at the end of the year was good.
Janko was drafted as a project and shouldn't be punished for having a slower development path. He's progressing quite nicely and has a big upside.

I don't think he's being punished. And lots of fans here, myself included, have some high hopes.
But let's forget about where he was drafted. How many players with 4 years of college experience and his offensive production have gone on to become top tier players? I know there are several mitigating factors including his age and the system in which he played. Are there any other comparables?

2 of the 3 in the graph only played 3 years college, but were also older and Hayes numbers were better but he was playing on an offensive juggernaut on a line with Gaudreau.

nice write up - thanks for posting.
really interested in Mangiapane as well... didn't think his skating was as good as what is being writing here, but if so, can't help but be excited...

I like Mangiapane as the sleeper. Still not sure how he could be classified as one, I hope he proves me right in the AHL this year.

I'd say his production was average. His points in his 4th year were about what was predicted his 3th year points should be, so he's a little behind his development path.
IIRC his first year was playing LW and getting acclimated to the college level while building up his body. 2nd year was taking over at centre and becoming a top six player. 3rd year was becoming a PPG player. He has his excuses such as playing on a defensive minded team and not getting top minutes at times and now we'll see how he does in Stockton.

Good list thanks. I think Janko may be overrated on CP due to first round status, Feaster hype, and name recognition.
