I am on the opposite side of the fence. Murphy struck gold here. He is pure garbage if you ever watch the yotes play. That may be a bit harsh, but he will be a whipping boy at this price tag now cause he doesn't bring 3.85M of value night in night out.

Thanks OK, I thought he was Ryan Murphy in Caroline for the first 3 posts.
There doesn't appear to be a relation but they were both first rounds only 8 picks apart in the same year.

23 year 6'4" 215lb right handed shooting dman that can skate really well. Still developing (turns 24 in Mar) and just needs a little consistency. I think it is a good get with the potential to be a great contract.

Is Klefbom a good comparison for him?

Murphy is way more physical, but Klefbolm is more offensive

That would be shortchanging Klefbom significantly. I think Klefbom is a functional top pair guy, Murphy a middle pair guy thrown into a top pair role.

Klefbum is a top pairing dman on the Oilers, he is a functional top paring guy for Edmonton. On any other team in the NHL it is a real stretch to get him into any top two.

How is Connor Murphy worth $3.85M AAV right now??

And how is he worth about $1.3M more than Matt Dumba?

This contract stinks right now. So much so, in fact, it almost makes the Danny Dekeyser contract look decent.

Yotes must be confident that Connor Murphy will make a quantum leap forward with his game, because that's what he'll have to do for this contract to be decent. If he doesn't make any improvement to his game, this will become a painful anchor.

The exact words I would use to describe Klefbom

AltaGuy
AltaGuy has a magnetic personality and exudes positive energy, which is infectious to those around him. He has an unparalleled ability to communicate with people, whether he is speaking to a room of three or an arena of 30,000.

Klefbom is only offensive because he plays for the Oilers. On any other team he's probably a decent Swedish dude.

isn't the term and $ amount a little odd - sort of like that guy from Nashville.

I don't think this is a great deal. Murphy has never played at a level that warrants this type of money.

If he can stay in the top 4, this deal won't look too bad. He is a more defensive player (with a big shot). As of now, he isn't that great in his own end.

I'm surprised that so many haven't heard of him. The guy was a first round pick and has been in the NHL for 2-3 seasons.

Murphy has great potential to be worth much more than that AAV. Keep an eye on him
