The longer this draws out, the more worried I get. I don't think signing Monahan long term will be an issue. I'm a little more concerned that Johnny might be more interested in playing out East in the near future and may opt for a shorter term deal. I've still got my fingers crossed for 7-8 year deals, but from what I've heard/gathered, term is a sticking issue with these negotiations

Maybe Resolute or Sureloss know this answer off hand as they seem to know the CBA very well or the legal back office stuff. My question is how would the insurance work if they(Monahan and Gaudreau) still are not signed by the World Cup of Hockey? There is no contract with the NHL so are they responsible for their own insurance? Just curious.

If I was them I'd back out.

But if you were them, then they'd be you, and they'd use your body to opt back in. You can't stop them no matter who you are.

I'm assuming the NHL wants them signed before The World Cup .

The players would still have the option to play. It wouldn't have anything to do with the CBA.
It would not be wise for the players to play without boatloads of insurance, which they would have to pay themselves. Neither of those lads is exactly rich yet (by NHL standards).

Depends on who is willing to foot the insurance bill and if you can find insurance for an unsigned player.
For the past Olympics the IOC paid the insurance cost, so imagine the NHL/NHLPA are likely sharing the cost of the insurance for the world cup.
Are they going to find someone to insure a player that has not signed a contract is difficult to say.

Andrew Walker was on the Fan and apparently interviewed Johnny (has yet to air) and that Johnny said he thinks it will be done "very soon".

Absolutely. These are two of the most important contract signings in Flames history, and easily the most important since Giordano's deal, or perhaps even since Iginla's last contract in Calgary.

#Flames are close to signing RFA Sean Monahan & Johnny Gaudreau. Terms are agreed upon from what I'm told they will be 8 year deals. #CofRed
Not sure the validity of the insider with only 77 followers but saw this on my Twitter feed today

Probably not valid at all.
I won't lie though, seeing that tweet made my heart leap for joy. 8 years!!! Then you said only 77 followers and I was like aw man.

I doubt they'd get matching term.

Why is it getting ridiculous? There is still more than a full month before the start of training camp.

Because 95% of teams wrap this stuff up before August. I will start to get annoyed/concerned if they aren't signed in the next week.
