LOL...Torre already fired, Piniella to replace him
Just reported on ESPN and expected to be made official tomorrow.
Its literally 6 hours since they lost...and Steinbrenner has already started the dominos.

Well to be fair to Georgie, it's been a long, long time since he fired someone. He was probably secretly hoping they'd lose to Detroit so he could have that wonderful experience again.
Piniella? Didn't see that coming.
Torre will have his choice of jobs in a month. I could see him going to Atlanta if Bobby Cox decides to call it a career.

I don't like this move.
I'm not a Yankee fan, but I am a Torre fan. One of the few managers in the game that hasn't made an ass of himself on some occasion.

What a simply asinine move by Steinbrenner. Replacing a class guy with someone like Pinella? I hope he only signed Lou to a one year deal.
I really hope Torre lands somewhere else. I wanna see if he really is a great manager, or merely a good one with a great budget.

Torre was going to retire (or at least resign from the Yanks) if the Yankees won a ring anyways.
Probably a good chance he wasn't wanting to come back anyways.
I am a Yankee fan, rather, maybe better put, I am not a Yankee hater, over the past decade...and thats mainly due to the fact that Torre is a class act, and, a winner.
He won't put up with/acquire selfish jerks like Ramierz etc etc, and the guys that have so called attitude problems before the Yankees (Sheffield, Canseco etc) all have smartened up under Torre, at least while with the Yanks.
And, he has the playoffs, and rings, to top it all off.

I'm a well documented Yankee hater, but I also am a Torre fan. I just can't hate the guy. Jeter is another. Always makes the plays when it counts, pretty much just shuts up and plays.

Torre has not been fired, just more biased reporting by ESPN. They still can't get over the fact that their boy big Papi didn't make the playoffs.

Torre is a classy guy, if he was going to retire why not let him make the move.... Instead a jerk like George has to fire him.

Torre is not the problem. Fire Cashman for depleting the farm team, increasing the payroll by 70million, and forgetting that pitching wins championships.

The farm system was savaged by George and his cronies in Tampa over the last couple of years not Cashman. One of the conditions of Cashman coming back to the Yanks this year was control over the farm system so that it could be rebuilt.
Looks like the long days of the Bronx Zoo are about to start again

It almost seemed like the Yankees were better off in the late 90's early 00's when they had a few guys playing every day who weren't superstar type guys in that lineup. Guys like Paul O'Neil, and Scott Brosius. I remember in 96 Torre pretty much won the series with half his backups playing those last 4 games that they won. This years Yankees lineup looked so stacked, but even in an individual game like Baseball the chemistry just wasn't there. It seemed like they were at their best when they had to use guys like Melke Cabrera, and Miguel Cairo consistantly.
Similar to trying to take top line hockey players and stick them on the third line. You can't take a .300 hitter with 30 home runs and hit him 7th in the order, it just doesn't seem to work. The Yankees need to refocus on trying to create a better team, and not a better collection of individual talents.

The biggest difference between the successful Yankees team and this one is simply pitching. The starting rotation of the last Yankees team that one the series included Andy Pettite, Roger Clemens, El Duque, and David Cone. Guys that were great pitchers and were able to win big games. The current rotation is downright putrid compared to that.

Torre will be with the Yanks next season as reported by TSN. It's on their front of their website right now, www.tsn.ca
