Yup, that's exactly what we're doing. I'm going to migrate that mailbox to gmail before we cancel. But I might pay the $7 for one month, just as a transition period.

But yeah, ISP-based emails suck. Gmail/domain FTW...in fact, I have both, lol. My domain e-mail is actually powered by Gmail, on a grandfathered Google business plan, back when it was free for 50 users.

Is it the 10/100/1000 switch? Mine was set at auto but I switched it to 1000 Mbps. The download speed jumped up to about 90 and that was about it.

No, this was a 10/100 only switch. I put a gigabit one in its place and the speed shot up right away.

And no overage fees if you go past 1TB. They called me last night to confirm my install date and offered home phone for $10/month for 2 years with no contract.

Made the switch! I was on a deal with Telus for Internet 50 at $40 a month, which was set to end in August (up to the regular of 80).

I figured I might as well triple my internet speed and gain access to the Shaw Go Wifi network, which used to save me a lot from going over my data.

I think Telus probably would've extended my 50 for 40 deal for another year, but the ten dollar savings just wouldn't be worth the speed and convenience combined.

As an aside, every since I dropped this idea of customer "loyalty" I've been a lot happier. These companies want loyalty, but make it hard, so I have no problem jumping from place to place for the best offer. Super happy!

So called back.

Their original offer remains the same, but now adding they can keep me on Telus 15 for $35 for a year.

So the offers are:

Telus 15 for $35/month for a year

Telus 25 which would be $35 for 6 months then $68 for 6 months after that and then full regular price

Telus 50 which would be $45 for 6 months then $83 for 6 months after that and then full regular price

Wow! They aren't going to keep customers with that attitude! I can PM you the number and extension of the agent I dealt with or her email and you could try that if you want?

They are firm on this. $79/mo for existing customers for the 150 plan. Only new customers get the $49 for the year on a two year contract.

This is true, lol. Its funny...not that most people will ever get close to 1TB anyway.

I just went over to Shaw Court over lunch and signed up. They're coming to install it next week. If they call and offer home phone for $10, I might consider that.

Shaw phoned me and offered Personal TV, one theme pack with a HDPVR for $20 a month for 6 months. No contract, can cancel anytime.

I've often considered switching plans but I'm worried I'd lose my grandfathered HD+ plan. It gives me most of the HD channels and when I've tried to price equivalent packages, they seam to cost way more. Anyone else still on this plan?

Anyone know if existing subscribers get the $79.90 price without signing a 2 year contract?

I'm pretty sure the contract is a condition. I don't like signing telecom contracts (I've stopped signing cellular contracts), but this one was too good to turn down. At least its not 3 years like they used to be, thats how I see it. Two years is probably a good length, and even for existing subscribers, that's a good price.

The drawback for existing customers is if you're like Fuzz and have a grandfathered plan, you have to give it up.
