Boy, people on here are bored and need to talk or are smoking something if they ever think Russell is coming back even for cheap.... While we are at it lets keep everyone... Why bother with drafting people and letting them work into the lineup?
Seriously.... I have to remind myself ... Only read Sureloss, Bingo, Cali, Scorpion and maybe Caged Great

I'm not sure what else Nakladal could've done to secure another chance. He played solid during his entire stint, wasn't a liability in his own zone, and showed some good promise in the offensive zone. Sure he made a mistake or two along the way, but nothing unexpected from a depth defenseman, or that I haven't seen a guy like Russell make dozens of times.
I'd much rather have him back than Russell.

The only fair way to settle this is to have Russel and Nakladal engage in some sort of hockey Thunderdome. Two men enter, one man leaves..well..both men leave its not to the death or anything. Whoever gets hit by the fewest pucks wins!

You honestly think there are only five posters worth reading here?

His biggest drawback is that he's a righty which they ready have too many of.

It's not out of the realm of possibility. You don't have to be "smoking something" to think a Vet dman who is looking for work might sign a one year deal with his hometown club.

This is so reminiscent of the Ortio talk before we inked Chad Johnson. People seemed somehow convinced that going back to the well was wiser than seeking greener pastures.
If Smid is truly not going to return this season (and I'm in the camp that thinks he does play hockey this year) or if they trade Wideman (which I believe is impossible before Jan 2017) then they will look within the current prospects for their #6 guy, then outside the organization before they ever circle back to these two.

On the topic of Russell I wonder if he's best served to sign a one year show me deal as its hard to imagine him getting anything close to what he and his agent were envisioning on July 1st. I expect he must have had one or two decent offers tabled on the first week and whether it be poor advice of his agent or his own hesitation Russell may have cost himself his lone opportunity for a big pay day. On the flip side if he signs a one year deal and gets hurt or proves his critics right by being terrible he could see his career revert back to being a bubble player. It will be interesting to see how things play out for him.
I feel like Russells agent effed up beyond measure. He should have taken one of those offers he had on the table July 1. Now hes going to twist in the wind like Glencross did.

I like how Scorpions a lock and Caged Great is only a maybe. Also he won't reply to any of these comments mocking his post since he doesn't read us, win win!
Maybe he likes Scorps because he is a huge fan of polls.

To get back on topic, it's hard to believe Russell still hasn't signed with a team yet. He's definitely this years Cody Franson. The longer he waits the more likely it's going to be one of those shorter term prove me deals. Still got my fingers crossed that BT and crew can get Nakladal signed
