There's stuff in the original trilogy that I don't like, yet I still love Star Wars.
"Hold your fire, there's no life forms aboard" Um, what? That would have ended the entire saga if they weren't chintzy with their lasers. Family Guy parodied that the best.
Alderaan gets blown up. Obi Wan feels terrible for a total of 0.5 seconds, then shakes it off like nothing happened. Continue your training Luke. LoL.
There is a lurker alien in the death star garbage chute?

I always justified this as the Empire just being environmentally friendly. Add organism that eats organics in the garbage, cuts down on the amount of waste need to dump.

See, it used to be a nice cute little guy in TK-176's aquarium, but he got to big and didn't have access to an airlock. So he dumped him down the garbage chute, thinking he'd get disposed of that way. But the little guy just kept eating garbage and getting bigger and bigger.
Logical explanation for everything.

Even the Evil Empire has to deal with the NDP's Carbon Tax.
"How much garbage did you dump at your last slaughter before heading to Lightspeed? That'll be $8 billion credits."

That would be a great piece of propaganda.
You have the logo for the Imperial News Network and an attractive large breasted newscaster shuffling paper then she looks up at the camera
Booby McBoobface - "Today Emperor Palpatine the great and benevolent master of the galaxy announced that he had taken a lead role in battling galactic climate change by destroying Alderaan with a super laser mounted on what is now being called the Green Star."
The picture turns to a video of Palpatine sneering into the camera as he speaks.
"My friends, today I have taken a step forward in our galaxy wide fight against climate change by destroying the center of climate denial Alderaan who continued to produce and burn fossil fuels, thus causing a tsunami on Persia Omicron 5 which knocked over several swing sets. My Imperial Scientists declared that these facts are not debatable, and you would all be wise to get with the program.
With one shot of my super climate laser from the newly constructed Green Star which generates its energy using a clean solar ionization reactor in combination with several space wind turbines and space solar cells, I was able to reduce the galaxies carbon emissions by .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0000001%. So . . . . this is good."
The camera zoomed back to booby mcboobface as she smiled for the camera.
Booby - "An informal poll shows that 100% of climate change groups felts 100% that the destruction of Alderaan, the extinction of 50 million lives was ok.
The camera zooms in on a space hippy sipping a space latte while listening to space mobey.
Hippy - "Yeah man, those people on Alderaan were like completely evil, their insistence on using like stuff that they burn to heat their houses lead to the justifiable extinction of their planet because like someone has to think of the space seals"
Booby - "Meanwhile Princess Leia formerly of Alderaan released a statement decrying the genocidal extinction of her people under the guise of battling galactic climate change. Dr David Suzuki-Persia of Balmorria responded with a statement saying that 'If Palpatine jailed and executed more climate deniers like Princess Leia the Galaxy would be a cleaner and better place, death to the enemies of climate science, praise to the Empire''.

Watched Force Awakens again.
Can't wait for Ep VIII now.
Kylo Ren and Rey are brother and sister. No doubt in my mind anymore.

I keep thinking about that and I don't want it to happen, I don't want Rey to be a Skywalker or a Solo. I also go back to the whole Leia would have told her after Han died.
I have a theory that goes back to Revenge of the Sith and the prophesy of the chosen one who was created by the force to bring balance to the force.
There was possibly some accidental fore shadowing in one scene. After the rescue of Palpatine when Yoda and Kenobi and Windu were riding in the Republic transport and talking about the prophesy and Kenobi says something to the effect
"Isn't he the chosen one?"
and Yoda replies
"The prophesy might have been mis-interpreted.
To me, the theory of a supreme force being that brings balance to the force would in effect leave no other force users but himself, a perfect being of darkness and light in balance.
At the end of the trilogy there couldn't really be balance unless balance means that the force is pure light side. Which it would have been as Luke was at the time the only real Force user left.
Instead with the death of Palpatine and Vader we have a force that's completely out of wack, until it tries to balance itself again with Snoke and then Kylo Ren.
When Snoke muses about feeling an awakening, its clearly around the sense of Rey coming into the picture and starting her journey to a larger world and entering into her destiny track.
What if she's the chosen one, not really created by the force, but borne to it non the less. Not a skywalker or even a solo, but just a girl with incredible powers, who's destiny is to create a pure balance of the force in herself, the darkness and the light who ends up in the end seeing the end of Skywalker and Snoke and Ren.
I think that she's a representation of the Celestials that we saw in TCW series, who were imperfect because they were three
The Father - who kept the balance
The Daughter who was pure lightness
The Son - pure darkness.
We saw in the Force Awakens when Rey really wakes up in the fight with Ren that she attacked with fury and aggression which are all hallmarks of the Darkside. She almost took pleasure in cutting up Ren. But at the same time she was also capable of great compassion and empathy with her concern about her friend Finn when he was badly wounded.
What if Rey is what people thought Anakin was?

I've always preferred the interpretation that the force is all "the light side" and to bring balance is to remove the negativity-the dark side. Obviously everything in the prequels ruined that, but in the original trilogy, it made sense that balance was achieved by eliminating the dark side. The idea that you must always have an evil force to balance out the good seams silly. Otherwise the good wouldn't be good, it would inherently need to be negative in some ways to "need" to be balanced. Stupid prequels.

My money is on the fact that the Buddhist's got it right, reincarnation is the way to go and Rey is Anakin reborn!

Which may have even been alluded to in the very first teaser trailer, with Snoke saying:
"There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side, and the light"
But in the movie, the last part of that line is cut. In context of the film, he's clearly referring to Rey. Was that bit just added in for the trailer to make it cool, or was it edited out of the movie because they thought it gave too much away?

I don't know if I buy the whole Force is one side or the other. Mainly because of what Raw emotion does to it.
If there's one thing that's done horribly wrong in the Star Wars universe is the portrayal of the Jedi as light side users. They've basically extended this war with the dark side through incredible acts of violence.
At the end of the Great Hyperspace war, they pursued the beaten Sith back to Korriban and then decided to exterminate all of the Sith civillization and culture up to and including genocide.
In the war against the Brother Hood of Darkness, the Jedi more saw themselves as Warriors instead of Jedi and wanted to fight a war of extermination instead of finding ways to end the conflict.
At the very start of everything, the first great schism, when the first users of the Darks Side started within the Jedi Order, they branded the Force users that believed that emotion gave them strength as heretics, eagerly went to war with them, and then banished the losers to what they felt was inevitable death.
During the Clone Wars the Jedi were exceptionally eager to take up the mantle of Warriors and defenders of a broken system and the war caused misery throughout the galaxy.
At the end of the day, the Jedi actually caused the war between the light and the dark side of the force, and then continued to kill in the name of enlightenment. The Sith continued to fight because at their core of beliefs they wanted revenge against the Jedi who had wronged them.
Even Palpatine had it right when he seduced Anakin to the Dark Side when he told him that he needed to see through the lies of the Jedi Council.
If at the start of the Clone Wars the Jedi would have stated that this wasn't their battle and withdrawn, Palpatine would have failed to secure the republic. Instead the Jedi who were by that point corrupt and had been seduced by the trappings of power and wealth and as Palpatine stated "were afraid of losing their power" fought to preserve a falling Republic to maintain their power base.
To me Anakin from a certain point of view was right when he stated that in his mind the Jedi were the ones that were evil.
Look at how they used him, and they could have done the simplest thing and sent a few Jedi to free his mother from Slavery and it would have probably prevented the rise of Darth Vader.

Yes, but all those inconsistencies and annoyances can be put aside if you just do what I do, and ignore the prequels and all the other side-nonsense.
Ideally, Vader's backstory is kept a bit of a dark mystery, and you have Episodes 4-present and whatever side story movies they make from now on(unless they let Lucas make another one, in which case ignore that one too). Everything else hits the toilet.

I'm not sure how it's "clear as day" that she's not Force sensitive at that point. She was at the Academy obviously, and even if she wasn't displaying power at that point, she's the only one they left alive, so he must have known something about her.
Also, there's not much at all that can be made clear from her vision. Kylo just as easily could have been trying to kill her too and was stopped by someone. Maybe the whole Academy was protecting her?
There are a lot of questions and interesting ways to go, but there isn't much that's clear at this point.

In the force vision it looks like someone is taking a swing at child-Rey and Kylo stabs him through the back.
Why is he trying to save Rey?
Then later in the movie he realizes she has the force when he tries to extract the map from her.

Why did he save Rey's life? It's clear as day that at that point in time she was not force sensitive, so it's not like he saved her so that he could try to sway her to the dark side like Vader/Luke. (The proof is how he abandons the search for BB-8 because he thought he could just get the map out of Rey's head, not knowing she's force user/sensitive.)
Also, when the lowly henchman informs Kylo there was a girl with the droid, he freaking loses his mind.
The way Han and Leia act towards her tells me they know her, and I hypothesize that in order to protect her, Luke basically coerced them into disowning her and abandoning her on Jakku.
The way Kylo taunts her about how Han has become the father she never had; but that he's a terrible father.
Just so many small parts that lead me to believe it's the story of the Solo's.
PS: Could that gravestone-like rock that Luke is standing beside be the resting place of Anakin's remains? That thought popped into my head.
|
Out of all of the theories that I have read, this is the most convincing. It goes along with previous Star Wars and has enough new to be intriguing.

I 100% agree with most of what you said, outside of the guy trying to kill Rey. I think that was just Kylo killing an indescript person defending the academy. I wouldn't say he "saved" her (except from his point of view maybe) but did take down the whole academy trying to get to her. And I don't really think much is made clear in the vision other than she's connected to the previous Force path in someway.
I do think she's Kylo's sister though, and have since first seeing it. I don't buy the whole "Rey's parents weren't in it" thing. I do think Leia knows who she is, but Han didn't. The way she flies/knows the Falcon, her connection with Chewy, flashes of Skywalker. It would really surprise me if she wasn't a Solo.
