When I saw the wolf references in other threads I knew this thread must be gold. It totally is!
Nice backyard by the way Delgar, and it's awesome that you remained a good sport about how the thread went.

I am still confused how anyone can identify those as coyotes rather than wolves with the potato picture that was posted.
I am with you Delgar, must be wolves!

Easiest way to tell if it's a wolf or not is if it calls Bingo a paste-eating troll.

probably my favorite thread in a long time. References were awesome. was literally laughing out loud at one point.
I am 95% confident those are coyotes and likely were the same pair as in the am.
Things typical are bigger when you first wake up....
I would suggest go outside and try and find a print in the soft dirt if any remains after the rain. take it with context to your hand.

Was just on my way to the Beacon Hill shopping center at about 7:45 and there were about 6 cop cars and 3 animal services cars at the intersection of Sarcee and Stoney.
I got a really good look at what was going on as I was going by.
They were attempting to corner a white wolf, about the size of a large German Shepard that was running along the green space behind the Home Depot, headed east on the north side of Stoney trail.
Was pretty crazy. One of the cop cars was driving in the ditch beside the oncoming traffic off ramp behind the Costco.

From CP's Facebook page:
The Great Escape
Units in south Calgary were on high alert today looking for an escapee. Only, this escapee was of the four-legged variety.
‘Sierra’ the German Shepherd, managed to escape from home and began her adventure comprising of sniffing nature smells and leaving her mark.
After giving us the runaround, she was safely taken into custody and got comfortable in one of our patrol cars.
Following intense questioning of the silent suspect and good old-fashioned detective work, Sierra was transported home and reunited with her owners.
Sierra was advised against anymore “Ruffing” around #Calgary.
The "wolf" in question:

Right.
From your own post - "units in South Calgary"
Beacon Hill is not South Calgary, but carry on.

From your post: "6 cop cars and 3 animal services cars at the intersection of Sarcee and Stoney."
Because a scared, runaway dog is going to stay in the same area...further from their page:
"A dog that has gone missing running down Stoney trail since royal oak and even further they think, ended up near my house in hidden valley and as we watched and pulled over to help catch this poor dog. There was probably 8 police officers or more that helped catch him as well. Running through mud, puddles, diving to try and catch him. And I'm happy to say we did finally catch this poor dog who was terrified and hungry!"
and
"To each and everyone last one of the officers on Stoney trail trying to wrangle in a very wet, cold and scared dog who is running up and down the road - you deserve the biggest applause. It's cold and rainy out and they are all doing their best to bring this poor pup in. Stopping traffic so he doesn't get hit, running (and driving) up and Down the road after him and trying to coax him over. I hope your efforts pay off - but THANK YOU, for being amazing, kind hearted humans."
Looks like the dog got out, and went running along Stoney and Sarcee.
But carry on, it was probably a wolf.

Well unless that dog ran for 20km it isn't the same one. Stoney and Sarcee isn't remotely close to the south.
Or it is a typo and they meant north.

I could see both scenarios. Who knows how long the dog was gone for before CPS caught up to it, and they wander fast and far (having chased my dad's dog down a couple times after he got out of the yard).
Or it could be a typo.
Or a number of things. But the two are very likely related. A German Shepard sized "white wolf" is caught by 6+ officers the same night that 6+ officers chase down a scared mostly 'white' German Shepard...99% sure it's the same event.

If that's the picture of the successful capture, that is not the same animal that I saw.
But the description of your location seems to jive with what I saw.
What time was it? Why are people keeping wolves as pets?
