I singled him out as Stajan, Jooris, Bollig, Bouma get singled out for their poor play a lot while Ferland seems to escape a lot of the same criticisms. The bottom line is that they were all bad and they need to be better next season as you can't have your 4th line dragging you down on a nightly basis.

Nope. I didn't want Jooris back (I would like to see Stajan, Bollig, and Bouma gone as well in a perfect world). I thought Byron was a valuable 4th liner and a minor mistake by the GM last season as he was good on the PK which was a disaster last season.

They get singled out more because they were all worse than Ferland and all of them carried a higher cap hit. Ferland wasn't the problem in the bottom 6 last year, comparatively speaking.

As unlucky as Ferland is, I think it also goes to demonstrate that Ferland will never be that Top 6 forward that some around here wish him to be. The guy just doesn't seem to have the ability to finish with any sort of consistency. He's a scrappier version of Paul Ranheim, Matthew Lombardi, Paul Byron, Blake Comeau...players who always tease you with more promise than they can actually deliver. And that's when he's not being invisible.

Flames have better players in the minors. No big loss.

I also think its a shot across the bow from Management, Treliving specifically.

"One good season does not entitle you to a contract and a roster spot."

What does Stajan's not being bought out say?

Would like to hear some rationale that Stajan had a better year than Jooris in 2015-16 ...

You cant just buy out everyone. You know that buying players out has consequences right?

Glad to see he got another NHL contract, and glad to see its not with the Flames.
We have better options for our 12th/13th forward spot.

So you introduce the comparable, then refuse to compare it, leaving it up to others? You go first, for Jooris.

Good for him to sign on elsewhere. He was pretty much a walk on that was a boarder line 4th liner heading into his prime. Not part of the long term picture and opens a roster spot for a player with more upside. I think this is similar to Colborne where perhaps people are upset of the loss of the person rather than a hockey player. Bottom line a team that finishes in the bottom of the league can't keep the all players that got the team to that position if they want to improve.

Do not agree in the slightest. I am very high on Ferland and I think he's going to break out this season as a legit middle six player. Time will tell!

everything you have said about Jooris is every bit as applicable to Stajan except that Stajan had 1 good year as a Flame 2013-14.

That year the Flames were forced to play Stajan up the line-up and Stajan got 33 pts in 63 games.... trouble was playing him up the line-up he was dominated at even strength -13.

There are no statistical categories that Stajan has an edge on Jooris in 2015-16 and it and stats-wise over the last 2 years Jooris dominates.

The Flames could have bought out Stajan and kept Jooris @ 1M / year and would have more room under the cap.

Great, what does Stajan have to do with Jooris signing in NYC though?

How dare we focus specifically on Josh Jooris, in a thread about him.

The Flames don't want a four year cap penalty just so they can make room for another replacement-level player.
