Seems like the numbers keep getting higher for these attacks in the west. Tragic. Don't even know what to say anymore.

Given it's Europe, almost certainly a commercial vehicle - BBC said it was a lorry, so imagine a semi plowing into a crowd.

Looked like a typical smaller European lorry. There is video now on Reddit of the carnage and the actual incident occurring.

I'm used to the blood and guts but hearing the grief of people holding their dead loved ones is too much.

They said a "lorrie" so up to the size of a semi, but more likely a big cubetruck.

A pic of the truck (I believe) is shown here: http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/14/europe...uck/index.html

ya, it is a big truck, long haul type, flat on the front, I can't even imagine what the scene was like. So unbelievable.

This is awful and abhorrent.

But are people actually, really shocked?

Peoples' surprise level on this should be around zero.

Heck, had France won euro 2016, there might not even have been a parade due to security concerns. It's like they almost expect this type of thing to happen now

The inability of governments to protect their citizens is going to cause major political convulsions. You gotta wonder at what point the jihadists will get the war they're trying to incite.

Seems basically impossible to protect people fully. Humans are humans because we are resourceful. There will always be a way. I really don't know what the answer is but I don't think it's fighting fire with fire. That has already kind of proven to be inaffective.

Too hard to picture, just can't fathom it.

Brutal.

The truck drove for 2 km through a boulevard packed with thousands of celebrating people. Imagine a huge truck driving through the crowd from one end of Red Mile to the other after one of those playoff wins.

The old Russian saying that defense is moral offense is immoral is going to be severely tested. That's multiple mass terrorist events in Europe in a fairly short period of time. At some point there are going to be calls for closing the borders and an offensive against ISIS by Western Powers.

It happened on the Promenade des Anglais (pictured below), which would have been absolutely packed for Bastille Day celebrations.

Imagine a truck plowing into a crowd at Lilac Fest or the Stampede Parade, followed by the attackers getting out and shooting.

I'm just speaking of political reality. I can't see the people of any democracy resigning themselves to dozens of mass terrorism fatalities a month as a normal hazard they have to endure. Governments will fall.
