The only people you should support unconditionally is your family and closest friends. People are sneaky bastards, trust no one.

Globally, our police force is excellent, however, yes, you have to be on your toes around officers.

Weird thread title. You could swap out RCMP for literally anything else in the world. I give my unconditional trust to nobody.

Totally. All my friend did was yell "PIGS" at them at 2:30am outside Aaardvarks and he got thrown in the drunk tank. What a world.

To be fair, that is lame and stupid.

Speaking of RCMP misconduct, one of the officers who was sentenced to 30 months in prison for the tazering death of Robert Dziekanski, lost his appeal today in BC court.

Oh totally, guy was wasted, and we had a good laugh at his expense. I'm just saying, if you can't call cops Pigs in the middle of the night in Banff outside Aaardvarks, where can you do it? The answer is no where. That's where. As it should be.

I trust them more than cops in Mexico. But I'd rather deal with cops in Mexico.

Responses in this thread proving the point.

A bunch of one bad apple responses, some legitimate posts and the rest focusing on the language than the substance.

This is sadly only the latest story that makes me wonder how my fellow citizens just blindly worship police and presume they are always the "good guys".

Imagine a scenario where you walked around naked at work and bullied and sexually harassed your coworkers - and didn't even lose your job.

In my view, it is the very unwillingness of Canadians to accept how corrupt and unlawful their police forces can be that creates the environment for these things to happen.

Will we collectively demand someone to at least get fired? Maybe even face charges? Or is it all good because Paulson says sorry and they are accepting recommendations of a report?!

Not by a long shot. Same goes for any police force.

But that doesn't mean I don't think there's many cops who care and do a great job. I just think society tends to see them as a benevolent authoritative body when really they work for the people.

The whole "support the troops/cops/firefighters" bumper sticker attitude kind of feeds into the unconditional support idea. Just an extension of blind nationalism, which leaves a lot of room for abuse. All government policing bodies should have their conduct constantly scrutinized. Doesn't mean you can't respect the job that many of them do. But they should know society has strict expectations on how they exercise their power.

If a couple RCMP officers do something inappropriate do you think it's fair to bunch them all together? I think there's a word for that.

Are you looking to move to the USA in order to avoid this corrupt and brutal police force? We sure do have it tough here after all.

What countries do you think Canada should model itself on when it comes to police accountability?

If you got the idea from my post that I was suggesting all lawyers should be trusted (a) I do not know where you got that from and (b) I was not.

If you wonder whether I am being a hypocrite, I put my money behind my mouth when I see lawyer misconduct:
