Rob Kerr said some very genuine and good things about Colborne at the end of his show today. Clearly, Joe is one of the real good guys in the game. I get the decision being made here by the Flames, but it is a shame that we likely see him move on. In some ways, it would have been better for him not to have such a hot streak at the end of the season.

It's kind of cool how the Flames have such a definite starting point to the rebuild. When Iginla was dealt, the message was crystal clear. In an instant, everything about how the Flames were run changed.

Is it like that for most teams starting a rebuild?

Anyways, I'm not too worried about our RFAs. Colborne would be nice, but nothing to lose sleep over.

I don't like giving up an asset for nothing. He's a second or third line player with size who looks to be improving. Even if his last part of the season was a one off, he's still a decent player who has out played his 4th round acquisition price. Some say he doesn't use his size so it isn't worth anything. He isn't a big hitter, I understand but he does lean on people and isn't taken advantage of like many on our team.

The ones that will hopefully benefit the most with this (as well as the departure of Sielff and Raymond) has to be the younger prospects that are presently being developed in Stockton such as Poirier, Klimchuk and some of the incoming players such as Pollock and Jankowski, etc. I am interested to see how development continues with the some of these players, especially the ones that previously did not make the impact they intended given potentially expanding roles and responsibilities.

This would be more true if the Flames can lose Stajan, Bollig and Wideman while they're at it this off season.

They only benefit if they take advantage. Treleving just showed that he's willing to cut ties if you are under performing, otherwise Poirier and Klimchuk are next to go.

Stajan is a leader both on the ice and off it. You can't just go with nothing but kids.

Not going to attest to know what Stajan is like in the dressing room but he hasn't done any leading on the ice since the 2015 playoff run. He's been nothing but a passenger and maybe occasional contributor since then.

The team really isn't that young.

A good vet is good but a good vet who's also a good player is better. Like say Matt Cullen.

They both have two years left. They would have to show no improvement at all over the next two years not to get qualified IMO. Different situation from Arnold and Shore who were 24 and 25. By the time Klimchuk and Poirier need new contracts, they will only be 22. That's too early to sever ties with a former 1st rounder unless he is going backwards.

One of the reasons we signed Brouwer, with more than 600 GP. Frolik and Giordano have more than 500 GP. Backlund, Brodie and Engelland have 300+. Bouma, Chiasson, Hamilton and Monahan have more than 200 GP, which I think moves them past the status of "kids".

Plus Wideman has over 700 GP.

Granted it's not a terribly experienced roster yet, but give it a season or two. They'll eventually have to do without Stajan anyway.

Kenny Agostino (LW) 20 Points in the AHL with the Wolves - signed by St Louis

Bill Arnold (C) - currently UFA, not playing

Joe Colborne (C) 4 points with the Avalanche in 22 games

Turner Elson (LW) 2 points in 4 games with the Rampage in the AHL

Josh Jooris (C) - 2 points in 11 games with the Rangers

Joni Ortio (G) - in Sweden with a .913 pct

Kevin Poulin (G) - in the KHL with a .865 pct

Drew Shore (C) - 25 points in 28 games in the Swiss-A league

Bryce Van Brabant (LW) - 2 points in 9 games in the AHL

Aside from Agostino who may potentially still become a 3rd line player, it looks like Treleving was right on all aspects. This team with Colborne, Jooris, Ortio would be very bad

Colborne is terrible, as I thought he's likely done from the NHL real soon. Can't believe some thought he was part of the future with the Flames.

So glad to see him off the Flames. His no heart, no compete play would be a bad influence on the younger players.

Yup riding coat tails in those last 20 games and padding stats. I'm glad Flames didn't fall for it.

Colborne was actually playing great, it wasn't that Backlund was carrying him or anything.

But it was a late season burst, meaningless games and *shudder* totally unsustainable. Glad he wasn't qualified then, super glad now.

to be fair, he went from riding coat-tails with Backlund to playing with superstars like Cody McLeod (0 points in 15), Andreas Martinsen (3 points in 24), Blake Comeau (5 points in 20) and John Mitchell (0 points in 19). Yikes!
